Yeah I find this to be their most depressing. High Violet comes close but some of its instrumental content saves it from being as soul-crushing as this one is.

hahah oh boy here we go again. I've had this debate many times on different threads, but yeah i agree, i think this is their most depressing album as well. The tone of High Violet strikes me more as angry than depressing, considering some of the violent imagery. the lyrics here though are almost uniformly desolate

I can actually see what you mean about High Violet being angry, though that descriptor definitely applies to some of its tracks more than others.

maybe not angry as much as more noticeably frustrated and bitter than most of their other work
