Not a big fan, that one builds up pretty nicely but it has some of the album's worst lyrics and Jesse's vocals sound unusually nasal

'it has some of the album's worst lyrics'

I don't know, man. Aside from the chorus, which I thought was honestly just okay, this song has some of my favorite lines on the album.

I would think most people appreciate Brand New lyrics. At The Bottom has great lyrics.

@onionbubs: That stanza actually proves my case, the lyrics on "At the Bottom" are rather immature and clumsily put together for Brand New's standards. I'm having a hard time making sense of metaphors like the block you quoted and "A deer that a hunter shot in the heart / Some dogs that got hit by cars / All came to spill their guts"

@chesse13: Disagree there. "Jesus," "Limousine," Tommy Gun, "Play Crack the Sky," and "Soco Amaretto Lime" are lyrical goldmines

I don't usually give a shit if I can find the metaphorical meaning of lyrics as long as it produces an interesting picture or idea in my head.

I get cool visuals hearing and thinking about lines like, "There's a lake / and at the bottom you'll find all my friends / they don't swim 'cause they're all dead / We never are what we intend, or invent," and, "A deer that a hunter shot in the heart / Some dogs that got hit by cars / All came to spill their guts."

Generally, my interpretation or thoughts on a line are much more important to me than understanding what the writer was conveying.

Some of Brand New's lines are iffy, but most of the time their lyrics are fantastic. Jesus or Noro would be my favorites probably.

this album is dogshit compared to devil. you stole is still uncharacteristically boring, same can be said of noro (which is a shame because they sound lovely but go absolutely nowhere). at the bottom and vices and daisy are all still quite good though.

edit: i forgot how boring bed was. and how annoying that one interlude is
