Encouraging the populace to accept mediocrity is a worthy cause when you think about it. Lower your expectations enough and you’ll never be miserable
I have to applaud his dedication

"is flagash ever not being defensive?"
Depends, are you ever not being annoying?
Just think it's a dumb criticism sorry, of course it'll sound like VM album. If you fail to see their improvement here, that's on you.

Most of the time I am not being defensive, instead just talking about how much I like/love an album, but people like you come in thinking you know better (you don't) and it irks me

Lol this isn’t an improvement on shit. I swear any time there’s like a fkn saxophone in indie rock or any marrying of jazz or other genres the immediate reaction seems to be “masterpiece”. So matured. Not to say that they don’t have some beautiful stuff on here, they just have a tendency to torpedo any cool idea

This is exactly the kind of album I wanted after Modern Vampires and didn't get with FOTB. They took the ideas they had there and turned them up a notch.
Do I think it's a masterpiece? No, I just think it's some fantastic indie rock.

It IS fantastic indie rock; ten great songs that embody what VW do best along with clear growth and experimentation.
It's ace. VW don't appeal to everyone - agreed - but the album has done extremely well both critically and with users across every music site I know. I understand it's tough to accept, but you're just gonna have to deal with the fact that this album has been a huge success for the band whether you appreciate it or not.

Koenig's lil yelp in Mary Boone is my favourite "woo" since My Girls

Early in the mornin’
Rise into the street
Light me up that cigarette
And I strap shoes on my feet
Got to find a reason
Reason things went wrong
Got to find a reason why my money’s all gone
I got a Dalmatian
I can still get high
I can play the GUItar like a mother-fuckin’ riot
Bew Bew Bew Beeeew bip bip BEW

Connect is a masterpiece imo. Also I’ve been trying to learn Pravda on guitar, what an incredible riff

I admittedly will claim to be in the condescending “musician” group with this next take but how can you listen to this album and not admire how much talent this took to write record and produce
