being able to compose music for your own inner-world in a game form is a privilege i think very few people have experienced. giving people the opportunity to interface with ur imagination is incredible beyond words and i believe Toby is one of the few contemporaries that did it.
the experience was able to connect with so many people too. that's another thing that's very hard to do. the way all the intimate facets just click together... like a pieces in a puzzle...
it's okay i guess 3/5

i read a dev blog some time ago in which Toby said the game had been taking so long because "he wanted to do something different to Undertale and he was afraid of the huge amount of expectations"

the cultural impact this game had is still so unprecedented, we still havent seen anything quite like it and idk when we will. and i'd say the music and adept use of leimotifs alone is maybe 75% of what made it work. it's just so well executed - every single thing toby TRIES to do hits its mark and thats what makes this such an anomaly.
again, speaking as a game developer, it's so often you have an idea of how a scene or mechanic or character exists in your head. but getting it out there and in a tangible and real form is hard enough - it's even HARDER for your attempt to turn out the way you want it, let alone *well*

i go back and listen to this and every time i do it sweeps me up in a world that feels so real that you can practically reach out and touch it. that's the mark of a masterful game - when you forget everything about escapism on a conceptual level and simply escape
