LA quartet Silversun Pickups follow up their acclaimed debut LP with a more accessible effort in ‘Swoon’. Rockier, poppier and less shoegazey than its predecessor, this is an album with next to no filler (‘Draining’ is close) and many highlights. Adding to the catchy guitar melodies are some nice string arrangements, while Brian Aubert’s distinctive vocals include more variety than before. Some songs are still a touch too long and cynics will cry “derivative”, but ultimately this is an excellent indie-rock record. Recommended Tracks: Panic Switch, Substitution, There’s No Secrets This Year & Catch and Release.

I prefer Swoon as well, but Future Foe Scenarios is still my favorite song by them.

The Royal We is my second favorite song by them.
