The Rapids has such a janky song structure to me, it ruins it for me. There's this whole buildup intro that is totally unrelated to the verse that comes in after that. Then halfway through there is that dissonant melody section that reminds me of MAYH that also feels so unrelated to the rest of the song. There are some cool riffs and a killer solo on it, but very far from my favorite closer they've written.

Insomnium kicked ass! they were the "opening" co-headliner tonight so they had a slightly shorter set than Enslaved so kinda bummed they only played like 10 songs.



majority of set was Anno 1696. 1696 into White Christ as their first two songs was solid, White Christ definitely sounds better live (I know you hate it hahaha). Godforsaken and the Witchhunter were meh, but Lilian went super hard. definitely the crowd pleaser of the bunch.



they played the Gale into Mortal Share which was fuckin awesome and definitely the highlight for me. Enslaved was good too, they were just down a guitarist. not as familiar with them but they played a lot of Heimdal stuff

The three song Song of the Dusk ep great. The songs are way more what I come to Insomnium for than most of the main album. Flowers of the Night, Stained in Red, and Song of the Dusk fantastic songs. For me only Starless Paths and The Rapids (Witch Hunter is cool too) from the main album are close to being as good as the ep songs.

Shame it's really hard to find the bonus tracks of this album... because they're pretty good! Like Stained In Red is heavier than the whole album, and Song Of The Dusk is generally a stronger track than some of the "main" songs.

The Song of the Dusk EP is really impressive! It offers exactly what I love about Insomnium's music, much more so than most of the songs on the main album. I particularly enjoyed Flowers of the Night, Stained in Red, and Song of the Dusk - they're absolutely fantastic. In my opinion, only Starless Paths and The Rapids (although Witch Hunter is also cool) from the main album come close to matching the quality of these EP songs.
