Losing a whole year def got the Emo vocals too. A lot of this is p polished tho esp the vocals but the tinges of other genres are definitely present in a much different way than The Promise Ring and early Jimmy Eat World

i do think that blue ended up maybe a bit more ambitious musically? if less consistent
that said i dont really feel strongly enough about this band to figure which of the two i prefer

Blue I really love because yeah the alt rock song structures are way more ambitious than some of the songs here but it’s less rough around the edges and really reliant on vocal melodies and the lead guitar licks (lead guitarist left after blue so the downfall of this band is definitely noticeable after that album).

Revisited this the other day for the first time in years and it still holds up. Good vibes.

Relistened on vinyl with a friend that had heard a few songs but not the full thing. He loved it, esp the transition between burning man and good for you

they play Semi-Charmed Life in the squeaky clean bookstore at the college I work at and it's always weird because of how risque the lyrics actually are. seems like nobody notices

Yeah, go listen to it again Boney! One of us, one of us!
Semi-Charmed rules. And if you want edgy lyrics listen to Slow Motion off Blue. I guess nobody cares about this band enough anymore to even cancel them. I appreciate the edgy lyrics, it was kind of their calling card

we're just using the term cancel as loosely as we want these days huh

if you were more familiar with their lyrics I think you'd agree that this frontman is ripe for a summary execution. On Twitter at least.

I am and there's nothing in the lyrics of the song you specifically cited that's cancel-worthy.
so-called cancel culture is about sexual predators, racists, etc., not slightly edgy lyrics.

people have hyped up cancel culture to be this scary liberal conspiracy boogeyman when it's jack shit half the time
nobody truly gets cancelled, even Louie CK rebounded and has a fucking career now

it's not a conspiracy and conservatives do it too. Also CK did nothing wrong.
