>I have a really hard time believing anyone would be more into [solo Lenker] than they are the last Big Thief album on the basis of anything relating to sexuality and that train of thought is lame
not your preference to gatekeep unfortunately, but great job on going out of your way to erase the only second-hand perspective expressed on the matter itt
>primarily comprised of love songs and sexuality has pretty much nothing to do with them
lol. stick to that guitar transcription

Also this is really good! I can't get myself to care about Big Thief, but something about Lenker's solo work really gets to me

big thief might just be too hetero for you. it’s like the auditory equivalent of 3 in 1 shampoo

What are the thoughts on “Ruined”? I’m not sold on it yet, I fear it reads a bit too mawkish/maudlin.

like it as a closer and like that it sounds very different to everything else on the album, it's a winner for me

Hm, I definitely significantly prefer the other two piano tracks, "Ruined"'s vocal melody seems much more generic than most others here as do the lyrics.

agreed that Ruined is one of the most derivative tracks on the album, but it's very competently done and has enough heart to get by. doesn't hold up against the early highlights, but far better than the run leading up to it

I prefer this to the new one although it did take me a few months to come around to this and I expect the new one to grow as well

Lenker's voice is just so good on 'Ruined' and that's pretty much enough to sell it to me - so many bland vocals out there in country/folk but in this regard she's truly blessed, great voice, lots of nuance

Agreed the performance is pretty good there but I cant help but imagine it as the sort of song yer Adele or Olivia Rodrigo might write or that you would hear someone sing on American Idol or sth like that.

A whole album of that style would be far too much agreed, but as a one off (well, 'Evol' is similar and I like that one too) to finish the album I think it hits hard for being so different and direct

“ I cant help but imagine it as the sort of song yer Adele or Olivia Rodrigo might write or that you would hear someone sing on American Idol or sth like that.”
Couldn’t really explain it but yes you nailed it. Good performance aside…it’s just a very generic track. American Idol fans would love that song.

absolute savagery putting Adele on the same wavelength as Orod as a songwriter lmao (agree with the gist there, but)
"I have no idea what hill you’re tryna die on here"
