There's some artists or genres where I really dig super tight/clean/sharp/whatever you wanna call it production. This is definitely one of em.

Like when you want your black metal to sound like you're being chased through the wintery woods by a pack of bloodthirsty wolves. I like my djenty faux-prog metal to sound like it was manufactured by ultra-intelligent cyborgs.

I buy that argument Lloyd, but I simply do not share your sentiments. I'll still send you a postcard on Christmas and love your face for life. ^^

yea the production here (and in this kind of music) is fitting. i actually rly like the production here cause its super clean but not OVERproduced the way periphery and stuff is, with all the glitchy electronic effects and whatnot

I didn't make any expectations for this album and it still exceeded my expectations. This is fucking

beautiful.

This is totally going to maybe be a four at some point probably but right now its definitely a 4.5

I almost enjoyed every single track on this. The only track that falls flat is primordial sound. Sounds like a long filler intermission. For shame.

Real talk, these guys need to just drop the whole metal front and just go full prog. they're better at it. Intuition is one of the best songs this year.

This would be way better without the heavy parts

yeah the heavy sections really bring this down for me. idk why but I kinda dig the cynic worship sections on here albeit them being derivative

I disagree. While the chug on Inuition Part 2 is way too flat, the Contortionist would lose their signature sound. Might as well just break up the band and change their name. I think some people tend to forget that.

that's not really the problem. they do keep the metal cuz it's in their sound, but the progressive rock

buildups flowing into the jumpy chugchug riffs makes this sounds like smooth-mountainous-smooth waves, for

me

at least how I imagine it.

Is this what the new cynic album should've been?
