I think things in the band were pretty different when that DVD was released, most of the guys in the band were on the outs for a long time. There was a point where they did say they would never get back together, but I think that had more to do with the fact that they couldn't stand each other and less about the band's "ideals". They're a whole lot less pretentious now than they were then, that's for sure. And you have to imagine that Coachella and labels were throwing them tons of money to reunite, they are far more popular and respected now than they ever were in the past. Say what you will about their politics, but they got to eat too...

I was actually a huge fan of the justification that the reunion was so that the band could give The Shape of Punk to Come the release tour that it never got, and I'm glad that it happened when the band had gained enough noteriety to play for audiences all over the world rather than just club/house tours in Europe and the US. Of course, there were definitely other reasons too, and I've gotta question how ideologically necessary a further continuation is, but the idea of finally, finally doing justice to that classic album was just wonderful (even though I didn't get to see them).

^^ exactly. Well if you buy their reasoning, they apparently had something to prove. I suppose if you've been told that you'll never top yourself 20 years ago, you might want to make a statement. Sure is risky though, hoping that Freedom is at least decent.
