These guys, Worm and Horrendous are really carrying modern death metal

I feel like I'm forgetting some others - who are some other modern old school death metal bands?

Horrendous > Blood Inc > Faceless Burial > Hyperdontia > Dead Cong / Obliteration > Malignant Altar > Tomb Mold > Worm > Cruciamentum

somehow never heard (or at least don't recall hearing) Funebrarum

need to spend a bit more time with a couple of these. Faceless Burial took a giant leap with their last album and Horrendous have been consistent but are also current (overall) AOTY contenders, so another big leap and hence #1 from this batch

deleted all my tomb mold ratings cause i had to admit to myself i remember nothin about their music. but apparently this is like, their prog jazz hippie release and ive seen them getting roasted for the, uh, CANOE ass photoshoot (not my words) where they look like euronymous's worst nightmare. so ill probably give this a spin

still need to check out the new horrendous as well, i havent really kept up with that band. i met those fuckers in ATL at the cannibal mayhem gorguts blood incantation show and im pretty sure i even told them i only knew their first record haha

honestly most modern dm is like, solid but forgettable. glad it exists but i doubt ill ever hear anything i like as much as altars of madness or like an everflowing stream etc etc

oh yeah undergang is a good newer band or at least i think theyre 2010s right?

worm foreverglade wasnt quite as cool for me as most thought it was, i thought it was solid but didnt really see how it stood tall above everything. i remember digging mefitis, mvltifission, handful of bands from when i was obsessively checking out new stuff during the pandemic
