I'll be damned, that new song is actually incredible. Who knew they had it in them
Going for some Jane Doe angles at times in that video too

oooo excited to check that. Do we think its a b-side from this since it includes an acoustic version of Scavengers as a single? Or do we think its the first single of Horizons/West?

The chorus sounds iffy on first listen but I think it works great once you've heard how it all comes together in the end. The song is just a b-side. The artwork is the top left corner of this album cover lol

Yeah it's a b-side.
Per Dustin on Twitter: "Dead Wake is a tune we were working on during the Horizons/East sessions, but hadn’t completed. I’ve always been fascinated by songs that only have one chord progression, but feel expansive and varied through the use of shifting melodies and layers, and we wanted to play with that format here."

I was listening to this today and I wish they leaned into the jazz influence more.
To be honest, they probably don't have the chops to do that. But if they did, it would be the jazzy thrice album that I didn't know I needed until heard color of the sky and the intro of northern lights. Color of the sky is the best song they've done in like 15 years
I wish they would move away from these mid gain guitar tones at times. The band is creative in a lot of ways but they've been really stuck on these types of tones since 2009 and sometimes it just makes parts that would have sounded massive fall flat
Due to the creative exploration alone though, I think this is the best album since Beggars. The last 3 felt very mundane to me. Beggars is also very straightforward, but its place in the discography made it more interesting.

Can't get over how lazy these riffs are compared to their glory days.
