I just saw Mayhem live with Mortiis last night, awesome gig! also the first for me in about three years at least. I had forgotten how much worse my tinnitus gets just from a couple of hours of live music xD

^^The exact same bill comes where I live, this Tuesday.

I probably won’t attend the show due to Covid and not being particularly big on this album.

Did they play anything from Ordo Ad Chao?

"Did they play anything from Ordo Ad Chao?"

I'm pretty sure they didn't. I have not listened to that record for a number of years now, so I might be wrong. They mostly played tracks from Daemon. 'Freezing Moon' as an encore, of course.

"Give me any mid-tier Darkthrone album over DMDS any day"

Honestly, as much as I like darkthrone, they're probably the most overrated from that era. Their classics aren't fit to shine DMDS's shoes

I honestly like newer darkthrone and mid era darkthrone more than the classics. I even prefer panzerfaust over blaze and TH. TH had the best riffs but it's a little boring having blasts for the entire album. Blaze while being classic and influential... I just never find myself being like "damn I just gotta go back and hear shadow of the horns right now." Blaze riffs are mid af compared to the riffs on DMDS

Yeah it's underrated as shit, I think. Personally I think it's their best since DMDS.

Love this one. Anyone know any other black metal with operatic vocal bits like this?

One of the best straight up no frills black metal albums of the past 10 years, and I will die on that hill

I'm more about Wolf's Lair Abyss and Grand Declaration of War. I really wish they had kept that guitarist and that direction. Even Chimera was really good.
