this is just boring. musically there's some nice bits but it's basically another cookie-cutter progressive rock/metal album the likes of which are popping up more and more these days that it gives this very little identity. it's like a slightly better Kindly Bent to Free Us, which isn't saying a lot

I get that argument, but then when I think about it, the only album I've heard that REALLY seems to strike the same chord as
this is Traced In Air. I can see a couple comparisons with other artists, sure, but nothing to warrant me getting 'tired' of this
sound.

maybe I'll give this album a go then. seems polarized opinion-wise so at least that's got my attention.
better not be no bloody djenty shit though.

little to zero djent

sounds tolerable then. mildly so until proven otherwise.

It's djent-styled prog metal (as in, it doesn't sound like any prog metal bands) but it's not really djent at all. A lot of bands seem to be doing this kind of thing actually... like they realised that just copying Meshuggah is what you do when you're 14 but once your band's been around for a few years it's time to start doing something original
idk I don't really like calling this type of stuff djent or prog metal but there's no other label for it so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

yes, I've noticed (currently listening). the elements are there but tastefully done. it's sounding pretty decent so far I must confess. not sure I'm the biggest fan of the almost robotic production though. it's way too pristine.

As much as I love Alan Watts and transcendental music, for me this is boring, way too cheesy, and simply not good enough.

Been on repeat and I can finally differentiate the songs without thinking too hard about it. It's not as
100% absolutely mind-blowing as my first playthrough, which was a very stoned one, but it's still 4.5
material. It's just so good.
Love the vocal melodies - I just wish there were more of those "whoah" moments where everything comes
together, settles down, and Lessard shines HARD for about 15-30 seconds. Like in Thrive and The Parable
and Integration. Those moments that could have been a chorus, but song structure is so fluid that it never
exactly repeats and they're one-offs that then weaken the rest of the song as a result. Like, the jazzy
prog stuff is really neat, but sometimes it feels like it's there for the sake of it, and then I get to
thinking that if it was a little more structured and allowed Mike to keep singing these gorgeous melodies,
this would have been an easy-5 for me.
Also I'd love to see the lyrics as people figure them out. Lessard said he wanted people to figure them
out instead of him just releasing them so....may be a bit.
Omaha, we always seem to be pretty much aligned here. I like your reviews!
(Out of curiosity I finally re-listened to LCTR's Level 3 last night for comparison, and it fucking blows.
The mixing is so terrible, and Lessard's performance is night/day when you then listen to this record. And
I know he's a great singer, so the way that album was produced is just way off)

Man I couldn't disagree more. Listening to Intuition at studio quality on a Triton headset was the single most orgasming thing to ever hit my ears. Every single note made me produce a quart of semen.

Agreed. Much better with a great set of headphones. Really does the ambient qualities justice.
Although, I won't go into graphic details of what it did to my body.

did you quiver as the cozy cosines struck the inner workings of your ears, and did you perspire ever so gently when the ambiance folded itself upon your corporal self...?

I think the production works really well for this style of music, actually. Like, these bands are all about space and technology and that kinda garbage.

doesn't really work for me though. true beauty lies in the imperfections and shet y'know? otherwise, how can you be certain this isn't recorded by a bunch of androids?
