II is easily the best CC, even if the other three have equally great moments. Could see this being your fav if you bat for paranoid witch house, but II is just straight hits across the whole board

ill listen to II again but didnt strike me as revolutionary and more accessible. not sure what you mean by paranoid witch house. that a reference or something? all i will say is discovering wrath of god has nearly made finding out i have 3 herniated discs in my neck on monday bearable

witch house rules i love it as an early 2010s time capsule

oh damn, rough to hear you've got neck problems :/
fwiw i definitely got the most out of this one when I was curled up in a 3 weekish depression bubble with almost nothing else except Cocteau Twins and the bleakest National albums on rotation, so maybe it is the best convalescent castles alb?

I think this one is more solid than II but II has bigger peaks like Empathy which is their best stand alone banger imo

I just know the first and a little of the second.

Thanks Johnny. Listening to II again and very consistent, accessible and well written. III is just so evocative and grandiose and dark which is more my style

This some of the most disturbing music I’ve heard. The drug fueled beats with the oppressively dark lyrics genuinely has me a little freaked out

I don't know a lot about the people involvied in this, but I had heard some bad things and how the original female singer was injured but still performed a show under the influence maybe forced.
Life can be difficult.

Yeah the fact that there was such a tumultuous relationship between Ethan and alice behind this music definitely adds to the darkness of it. And then the album cover….

This review saying there’s too much reverb like it was a mistake. The over saturation was a choice to be experimental and enveloping and it works perfectly. Makes me think of when Gregg turkington said it was a mistake to animate escape from planet earth because people like to see Brendan frasers face
