Ha, I must admit the whole listen I was thinking “This is really a Johnny 5?”
There’s an element of theatricality here that I think I’ll have to either get over or embrace if I am to love this (which is certainly doable, I love The Decemberists for example).

This is at the top of the pantheon of grandiose indie full-record-experiences for sensitive literates (full ranking available on request) alongside Reconstruction Site, and yh the theatrical oomph is key. Songwriting is meticulous in how it sets up that performance
