Got some new appreciation for the title track lately yeah, that banjo-like thingy near the end is sweet.
It really is a simple, pretty, and inoffensive album. Perfect while working or studying.

Spun this the other day when it was sunny outside and I had an out of body experience.

I have Nostalgist on a mix and it always shows up in the most cinematic way possible. My life becomes a netflix trailer for a moment.

Was expecting to be wholly disappointed after the genius of D&D. And on first listen I definitely was and was thinking this is a 3.5. Second listen was altogether different and felt like a 4.5. Third listen feeling like a 4 which is where it will stay for the time being. Just love The opening minute which sounds like an orchestra just waking up with what sounds like flute, maybe other (synthesised) brass or woodwind and a sax? And then the guitar kicks in. Wildblood is a fantastic opening song. Flowers of light is the weakest track for me - just sounds like the joys of spring and it’s far too happy and skippy for me, and after a couple of minutes the synth/guitar? motif that they have cycling throughout the entire song really begins to grate. Interesting that one of the strongest tracks has vocals - don’t know what to take from that really. Is that good or bad, should it bother me...not sure, but regardless, the vocals are top. Nostalgist definitely brings the feels. Division Blues is fairly average with not a lot to offer, onsra is a pleasant midway interlude. Collapser is probably the closest they get to D&D but in a concentrated 4 minutes, Ishmael imperceptibly transitions from a folk song into soaring guitars and crashing symbols but I find lacks any real substance, and circles on circles is a nice mellow closer. This is their most concise album in terms of running time, number of tracks and average running time of songs. For me it lacks the grandeur and depth D&D. It’s like their pastoral album compared to the darker more wintry and autumnal shades of D&D. Maybe Just a bit too polished and bright for me.

God damn, just wrote that and talked myself back to a 3.5. Only Wildblood, Nostalgist and Collapser do anything for me, they are three great tracks.

Wildblood and Flowers of Light are so amazing, if the rest of the album measured up it'd be a 5 but it just loses so much steam and never quite regains it

Easily the best on the album and possibly their career. Which says something.

That string sound is so unexpected and almost sounds like something out of a country song but the maturity and complexity in that melody is heartwarming

man Onsra has massive Slowdive vibes, Pigmalyon era that is, and I'm all for them, surprised this hasn't topped any year end lists just yet
