ah I got you. To be fair, I far prefer Ryche to the other two, but I really need to dedicate more time to Fates.

Fates and Dream Theater can't compete with classic Ryche
Fates is the winner in the long run though

Opposite opinion for me titan dude. My ear was more in tune with DT and FW's style from the very beginning vs Ryche's

Queensryche was actually challenging Rush for my top spot at one time. They had the ability to be my absolute favorite band. I was fortunate enough to see them live 15 times as well.
For those of you that are familiar with my fanaticism's, imagine that.

"Fates and Dream Theater can't compete with classic Ryche"
To me, it's hard to compare Dream Theater to Fates Warning or Queensryche because their style of Prog is so different from the other two. As far as comparing Fates Warning and Queensryche....
I think Queensryche destroyed Fates Warning through Promised Land (When Fates Warning released Inside Out). The Warning is so much more developed than Brocken or Spectre. Rage for order is leaps and bounds ahead of Awaken the Guardian. Of course, Mindcrime has no peer (especially the early Ray Alder albums). Empire is the leader and Parallels is the follower... and comparing Promised Land to Inside Out is a joke.

^ I agree with most of that. I think the only thing I'd contend with is that Parallels is superior to Empire imo... to me, the latter dipped a little too much into glam cheese to compete with the former, or even the previous Queensryche records. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great album all around
But yeah, the other early Queensryche albums pretty much destroy the FW counterparts. However, Fates Warning's later stuff is absolute leagues and bounds ahead of post-Promised Land 'Ryche

Absolutely, when Fates Warning gave up on fame they excelled.
Edit: I love Parallels. It was my introduction to Fates Warning. As far as song writing though, to me Parallels feels lacking compared to the start-to-finish journey you get on Empire. Also, Empire is much more varied than Parallels.

I will say though, I've been revisiting Queensryche a ton lately. It never ceases to astound me how great their classic run was... they really captured the perfect balance of dramatic storytelling, traditional metal riffs, prog-tinged rhythms, and thought-provoking lyrical themes. I loved the band as a kid, but I think I love them even more now
Also, I'm planning on doing some vocal covers of the band pretty soon. I've been nailing Geoff's parts recently :]
