i did have a lot of fun in high school. this came a bit after so it was just unbearably reminiscent of those sounds while precluding any necessary sentimental attachment for a retrospective fondness. more of an unwelcome imposter, unwilling to allow me to escape the past at a time when all i wanted to do was move on from high school lol.

Ignoring Kompys's awful opinion: Sowing you'd probably love Of Montreal

I can't vouch for their stuff after Hissing Fauna since I think people said they kind decline after that a bit????? But everything up to Hissing I've heard is awesome

"A Foster the People thread does not deserve to have of Montreal in it"

IDK there's so little to say about FtP other than "more annoying, but more musically interesting version of MGMT, slap a 3 or 3.5 on it"

Skeletal Lamping's underrated but yeah haven't kept up

Always thought of oM more in the elephant-6y retro-psych pop field rather than this millennial cynishit edgepop nonsense, though

Very true at least as far as this album

They got a little more interesting on Supermodel, by which I mean they started ripping off more interesting bands

Yeah I like Supermodel about a much as I like this

The bonus track Tabloid Superjunkie is actually fantastic... might be the best thing they ever did and it didn't even make the main tracklist lol

in fact, what band are they ripping off on Tabloid Superjunkie? I might like that band

Their early stuff, but like Hissing Fauana is very different from what came before it I guess? IDK Hissing Sounds very different from Satanic Panic in the Attic at least

always love to see colton try way too hard to make a thing out of nothing just to be a cunt and fail as per usual

I might eventually check oM, but based on this thread they don't sound like a huge priority lol.

Supermodel was a very noticeable step down from this IMO and then Sacred whatever was really forgettable.

oM's real cool, Sowing, at least give Satanic Panic in the Attic go, it's pretty far afield of this style

Please don't grain of salt every one of my opinions with this 1.0 lmao

Ars I've never heard the bonus tracks on supermodel but most of that album, to my ears at least, is trying to be either Merriweather Post Pavillion-era AnCo or some kind of Neon Indian/Black Mother Super Rainbow type thing so I'd assume it's somewhere in that vicinity

I mean I like the 2 Black Moth Super Rainbow albums I've heard, and really don't like the singles from Merriweather Post Pavillion so uh hmmmm

I wouildn't compare Tabloid Super Junkie to AnCo, but I guess I see the Black Moth similarities a little?

Somehow avoided Pumped Up Kicks until recently and the song is actually pretty dope.

Tbh this band is better than MGMT in like every way even if they aren’t amazing

Like imagine if MGMT cared about rhythm instead of just hooks

New single caught me pretty offguard. It's actually a really fun song.

It's a proper banger. I've practically been playing it on a loop, it's unbelievably better than anything they've put out other than a lot of the songs from Torches, obviously.
