Yeah “Blue Arrangements” is suuuuuper Pavement, the slacker rock solos on that one are so great. This whole album has some of my favorite guitar work ever; The Natural Bridge is the best pure Berman album but I do think the extra twist that Malkmus brings to this one with their guitar and vocal interplay helps bring this one more fully into classic territory (Natural Bridge is like a 4.7 though, I could easily 5 that one too if I really wanted to).

Never given this a proper listen. Always been under the radar as a pavementy band when there’s only one pavement.

They’re in the same realm as Pavement of course because Malkmus is a sometimes-member here, but Berman’s songwriting is a totally different beast. Malkmus is great but Berman was a legend. So as much as there’s also only one Pavement there’s only one Silver Jews. 😜

I dyed my hair in a motel void
Met the coroner at Dreamgate Frontier
He took my hand, and said, "I'll help you, boy
If you really want to disappear"

I asked a painter
Why the roads are colored black
He said, “Steve, it’s because people leave
And no highway can bring them back…”
