It kinda dissolves into a chug laden bore, honestly. Just watch the 25 minute bonus show included with the album: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1xG4y1s7jk/

Phalaris is like what we should've gotten after Insulated World. The different soundscapes and new ideas they present on here are wonderful. Only songs I can say are "meh" are Oboro and Hibiki, simply because they've got such a high bar in terms of ballads (Behind A Vacant Image, Rinkaku, Ware Yami Tote). Utsutsu has such an eerie groove I can't help but adore it.

But… we did get it after The Insulated World. Do you mean Arche?

The point they're trying to make is either TIW was shit and this album is the standard that a follow up after Arche should be, or that TIW did not follow along the natural progression which Arche introduced.

Few months later and my opinion still stands, would listen to TIW any day over this despite some great tracks on this.

Don't remember much about this apart from the production being bad... again.

Need to jam this again, it’s been a while. But I still have a fondness for this record, much better than TIW.

Production is still shit, but again, it still improves on its predecessor. Just wish they’d worked on the endings to a lot of their songs on here, because they just tend to fizzle out

Schadenfreude is a show stopper, probably a top 10 Dir track.

Someone give this a remaster.

Not as badly produced as TIW but man, this still sounds so compressed.

Why did they ever get rid of the guy who produced Arche? That records sound is phenomenal.

I only play TIW on speakers so it doesn't drive me nuts, helps it a lot. Meanwhile this is at the uncanny valley I am not completely happy with either.

Kaoru said to me that they (whoever 'they' are) wanted a change. The fact that Tue has stayed to work on the occasional bonus track since then makes that statement hold some credibility.

I'd have been perfectly fine with the band calling it quits after Arche, that run from Uroboros to that album is one of my faves of all time.

Given I like TIW a lot now and that they gave us an all time classic concert with Sogai I do not think they need to dispand. I'm curious how good this will sound live.

Kyo apparently sounds awesome on this album's 2nd tour right now, which is a great sign. Can not wait for the new Sukekiyo release in August.

I meant carry on touring but cease studio activity, band is always a must see live from what I've heard.
