Doing some Beatles with my singing teacher. First Norwegian Wood and now Yesterday. This year I want to get into them too, never really listened to The Beatles before. The simplicity of Rubber Soul is really fascinating me tbh. I wonder if all of their material is like that.

rubber soul was the last one to be quite that simple

it was also the culmination of everything up to that point

so basically go backwards but dont expect things to be as consistently good

Yes for sure. It is perhaps their best record because of that. Simple yet perfect.

I know "It's Only Love" is viewed as one of the weaker tracks on here, but I'm addicted to the guitar sounds on that one. The lyrics are simple, but that adds to it. Like you would just gloss over it because you go "Oh it's only love, I've heard things like this over and over." But there lies the beauty and brilliance of the track for me. It's like it already knows that.

Yeah this album is full of honest stuff like that. Nothing more, nothing less. And it works wonderfully.

One of my fave Beatles releases.

I’m listening to Help! right and wtf You Like Me Too Much has super abusive stalkery lyrics

If she tries to leave him, he’ll tell her she doesn’t have the will to do it. And if she successfully leaves him, he’ll stalk her til she comes back to him.

They've had similar themes in other songs. Run For Your Life for instance. Eeeek.

yh, Run For Your Life (which was at least taken from Elvis lyrics, but still willfully creepily) and No Reply esp have aged like mud

Thanx, fun way to rediscovered them. I am curious, what is your Top-5 Beatles LPs.

I ask because we have similar taste across music. I will use your top to anticipate interest.

It work well, for me, that way. Cheers.

Haha! That's a very hard question. In no particular order:

Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, Help!, The Beatles, Revolver

I mega like Magical Mystery Tour and I like Sgt. Pepper's and Hard Day's Night.
