I'm saying there's not a huge difference between the likes of:

and:

Doesn't mean they fall into separate genres though

Which is partly why arguing genre semantics is not particularly useful or enlightening.

Yes, I know. And I agree those are both house music. But saying Faithless is not trance... Then I don't know what is, in your eyes... (retorical question though)

I don't see why you seem to be getting so wound up about this.
The melody, lack of beats in the middle of songs (you know for interludes), that voice, the general sound of it. More high-pitched, whereas House has more emphasis on the bass.
There's melody in house, I'm not sure exactly what you're on about with the lack of beats but that's generally referred to as a buildup; the voice, well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xKUiva2WSQ. I've already mentioned the bass and pitch has nothing to do with anything really.
I get the feeling that you almost have some kind of checklist for music when you listen to it, or certain expectations and criteria that it apparently meets that causes you to throw it in with a certain genre

Can't get into any of this stuff tbh

I can assure you that's definitely not the case. Good music is good, and bad music is bad, that are my criteria.
But now I see you got my point wrong. The key was "the general sound of it", it's floaty (if that's a word, litterally translated from Dutch, so idk). So I guess what I'm trying to say is: if it's floaty music (really big generalisation) I tend to classify it as trance.
Most dance music has beats, voices and stuff, but the general sound/ approach is different.
So I call Faithless trance (and most people I know as well), but really, I just find it bad and classify it as such.
Ow boy, wall of text :/
Edit: also, I'm doing this because you asked me why I find it trance so yeah : )

I get what you're saying with the whole "floaty" thing I think, but I mean Kaskade, Late Night Alumni and Clara Hill all use a similar device in their music
|

Like, see here for example:
Boys Noize (though that's more electro),
HOUSE MUSIC, it all falls under the same banner

I guess I stand corrected for that one then. But where I live, we use the term electro more than the term house. But whatever...
It's not really important either... Let's call it quits

Ghosts n Stuff is the best song he'll ever make

I absolutely hate Deadmau5 with every single fiber of my being. Jacking up the bass on your beats doesn't make them any
more interesting

Yes, because that's all he does
|

Dunno, stuff just strikes me as being maddeningly simplistic

Simplistic isn't necessarily bad though. Word Problems and Bot are some of the best minimal dance music I've heard in a long time.
|
| |
Yeah, I know simplistic isn't necessarily bad - it's found in plenty of dance music. This stuff just puts me on edge, though, and not in a good way.
