I think mine was vital remains, either that or necrophagist

I heard a Necrophagist song or 2 before this but it did nothing for me but put me off the genre lol
I used to use Metal Archives hard body and I think a review for this was on the front page when it came out so I just tried it out. the closest I got to DM at the time was Dark Lunacy or like Opeth

Their finest album

Hahahaha definitely understand being put off by necrophagist but when I heard it when I was 16 it melted my brain

it was more disappointment than anything because they had so much hype at the time. in my head I was just like, yeah I think I'll stick with Deliverance
|
| |
Nile was definitely on my radar, I remember loading up the sacrifice into sebek video on AOL and waiting 15 minutes for it to load on dial-up internet hahahah
but as for whole albums, yea it was probably wages of sin or anthems of rebellion.

Extol's Undeceived was the first death metal album I heard. Back when I was mainly listening to Christian metal bands.

Honestly my first album that was at least mainly classified as dm was probably symbolic.
I used to get caught up in auto-necrophagist hate but they were pretty rad ngl

Actually extol was one of my first as well as a young christcore boi. Also went through a huge European melodic death metal kick in high school too so all of those are in the running for the first too. None of the cool classic ones until way later though, just shit like children of bodom and scar symmetry that were just adjacent
