This is Gorguts debut album, 1991's Considered Dead. It features a few guest appearances, such as James Murphy of Death and Chris Barnes of Cannibal Corpse.

Let me just say before the review, that these guys are very good. Very skilled and all are very prominent. Compared to their other albums, however, this is a more standard Death Metal album. Blast beats, power chords, and the like. This is still a great album though, just a bit different than their later stuff.
...and then comes Lividity-- The album starts off with an acoustic guitar song. Its only 43 seconds, and not really a song, so I won't rate it.
Stiff and Cold-- First real song on here. Starts off fast, much faster than most of their later stuff. Luc Lemey is one of my favorite vocalists, and he's quite unique. He uses his throat more than most DM vocalists. He can go from a deep bellow right into a higher pitched yell or scream. Very cool. This song is pretty cool, nice work on guitar and drums, but nothing spectacular. 3/5
Disincarnated-- Starts off with solid double-bass over chugging riffs. Then it goes into this cool riff that I really like. This song is full of some nice riffs and some good work on drums. He doesn't match Flo Monieur (sp?) speed, but he's a very solid drummer. Thanks to the production, the solo is kinda hard to hear, but its pretty good. Then it goes into a slow, evil riff. Then another solo/riff, and the song ends. 4/5
Considered Dead-- Starts off heavy, right into a fast part. Vocals start abrubtly as well. This song also has some cool riffs. About halfway it has a cool melodic part that gives it an evil atmosphere, and goes along perfectly. 4/5
Rottenatomy-- Yay it starts off with the bass! Bass plays a groovy little line, then the band kicks in. Nice solid drumming. This song has a cool little melodic riff too, and strangely enough, they fit. Even with this album, you can tell the band is starting to push the boundaries of DM. The solo in this song is one of my favorite parts. Its a slow, moody solo, then suddenly it ends and the drums bust out into fast mode (lol). Overall, I really enjoyed this song, one of the best yet. 5/5
Bodily Corrupted-- Starts off almost like a Cannibal Corpse song (no surprise there). Nice work on the drums, and the bass has this little mini-solo thats pretty cool. The highlights of this song are the drums and, to a lesser extent, the bass. 3.5/5
Waste of Mortality-- Whoa, this is different. Starts off with a moody acoustic. After a minute, the band kicks in. Even this far, this is a very cool song. Slow, evil, heavy riffs dominate. One thing that sets this band apart are the solos. They aren't all shredding and randomness, their quite the opposite. Slow, usually melodic solos are used mostly. This isn't a bad thing. They fit this band so perfectly. This song is an instrumental, and a very good one at that. One of my favorite tracks on the album. 5/5
Drifting Remains-- Starts off with more mini-bass-solo-line-things (I don't know the proper name). Double bass is the main highlight of the song. While its not amazingly fast, its solid. Very solid. He doesn't miss a beat, keeps it a perfect time, and knows exactly when and when not to use it. Nice, solid song. 3.5/5
Hematological Allergy-- Cool riff in the beginning. To me, this is a sign of Gorguts to come. Strange riffs, off-beats, and just the feel of the later albums is evident in this song. Another mini-bass-thing in this song to set the mood (as if we needed to be reminded). Near the end of the song, they do something different. They slow down, then play a melodic line, then almost fade out, then rush back in. Very cool. Another very good track. 5/5
Inoculated Life-- The final track of this monstrosity. Starts off instantly fast. The drumming is great on this song. His use of kick-drums is very good. Not your usual double-bass-as-fast-as-you-can-as-long-as-you-can kind of guys. About halfway through the song, Luc lets out this awesome goat-mother-in-labor bellows. Goes from way deep to a really high DM growl, which his signature sound. Great way to end the album. 4/5
Well, there we go. Gorguts first album. This album is mostly traditional DM, and very unlike their newer stuff. Still, I highly reccomend this to any metalhead. Overall, I give this album 4/5.

The only album of theirs I've heard anything from is Obscura, and it was awesome. I keep meaning to get something by them.

After this album, their stuff got even more technical, and very experimental. This is still one of my favorite DM albums though. Gorguts is a band that I think is equal to Demilich in progressiveness and experimentality (I think I just invented 2 words).

I've got the album now, it reminds me of early Suffocation or Cryptopsy, but it's not just a ripoff... I quite like it. Thanks for the review, or I never would have checked it out.

I just bought this album, along with 'The Erosion of Sanity' all in one CD, for $26. This is a great album

Its weird playing this and then Obscura. The music is totally different. I think I like Obscura more, though, for the strangeness and weirdness of the music. In a way, it reminds me a bit of Demilich. This album is a great old-school DM album though, still one of my favorites.

Are all the 'Two From the Vault' series death metal? Because I can usually fit two DM CD's onto one burned CD for my discman or the car or whatever, maybe that's why they did it

All of those I have seen are extreme metal, at least. Not sure if it's all death, though; I've seen a Mercyful Fate one, I think.

They have other "Two From the Vault" CD's? I've only seen the Gorguts one, but if they have more, thats cool.

I've seen ones for Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Pestilence (the only one I own, so far), Exhorder, Obituary, Annihilator, and others. Maybe Suffocation.
