Papa Roach a highly underrated band that deserves a lot more credit than what they get. When their whole career took off with the release of their debut album "Infest", the first thing that came to my mind is "Does it get any better than this"? Well, in answer to my question, yes, it does. It's called "Lovehatetragedy". This album expresses an experimental side to P.R., as well as a more depressing side to P.R. This album is phenominal in that it expresses a sense of emotional loss that really says something with musical type. Though P.R. is predominantly rock, this album is not quite as hard as their previous album "Infest". This album is actually techno in some aspects, with a small hint of pop/punk. The instrumentals are of a more rainy day style, than anything else. This album expresses situations that the band have within themselves. This album spirals out of control very quickly into an infinite conundrum.
It starts with the heavy rock introduction M-80, a short stumpy, almost fun track that gets the blood pumping. Which just confuses me because the next rack, "Life is a Bullet", starts off a lot slower. But still has a rock intro. This track is good to be put where it has been, it is one of the less interesting tracks that I typically just skip. The next track "Time and Time Again" is much heavier and represents a theme that someone you know is selfish. The riffs in this song are pretty simple but say a lot in the transistion between the verse and chorus. When it comes to quiet intros that lead into the rainy day songs, it starts at "Decompression Period", where the vocals are very melodic, and ominous cymbals take over the slow beat with rather quick reaction. One of the best tracks on this album is "Born With Nothing, Die With Everything". This track has one of the best intros on the album, right behind "Black Clouds". The verse tells you of a good song to come. Once the chorus gets to you, there's no escaping the desire to listen to the rest. This song is a good representation of how much P.R. can change in a few short years between albums. The technological aspect of P.R. is unleashed once "Singular Indestructible Droid" arrives. From there on, the rest is a lot of P.R. trying to put together an spect of relaxing, but heavy, patterns that result in the continued listening of a P.R. fan. "Code of Energy" is one of the best tracks on the album, but it is extremmely recongnizable becasue it has been done by P.R. so many times, mostly in "Infest". These tracks offer a listener something that they can really enjoy from mainstream rock. Cause that's basically what P.R. is at this point in their career. The group entertains people with a pretty rapid approach of change. You really have to be a person who can adapt well to change in order to enjoy P.R. to the fullest extent. This is by far not the best rock that can be found out there. But when it comes to 21st century mainstream, it's hard to beat P.R.
Papa roach is more than just a band, it's really more of a brotherhood. These guys basically enjoy the same things, and they always come out on top with their albums' successes. Even in times of defeat, they can come out with albums like "Lovehatetragedy". Albums that attain success with the speedy oh no shows a bands true endurance in the musical industry.
