4 of 5 thought this review was well written
Same band, new album. Some people would call it just the average ol’ CD. Some people would consider it great, poor, or horrific. If you ask me, I don’t think that is great, poor, horrific, or your average CD. I think it’s a great work of art done by Less Than Jake. This was a great step up after their step down (Anthem), or so people say. I bought this cd in late December, but didn’t care to listen to it until the other day. I have been listening to it non-stop ever since. So, what makes this album so great? Well, keep reading, and I’ll tell you.
Vocals/Lyrics!
This CD once again, has lyrics about stress, depression, and how your life can really suck. Actually, that’s pretty much every CD they’ve made. But that’s not the point. The point is, no matter how many songs talk about stuff like that, Vinnie always makes it creative so they never sound the same. Take Portrait of A Cigarette Smoker at19 and listen to the song. This song talks about how everyone these days are just messed up, and are just losers and how he used to be one of those “people." A.S.A.O.K. is pretty much the same. Quote:

Also, same with Nine-One-One To Anyone. AND, also, same with National Anthem. I’m not going to post all these songs, but I’m just telling you which ones have good, solid lyrics. Onto vocals. As I said in my other LTJ review, Chris and Roger do good dual vocals. I really shouldn’t need to explain this again, though they also show in this album again. You guys should already know that, I mean, like, WTF. So, with that said and done, I now give you…Instruments. Wooooo.
Instruments and stuff.
And, I also don’t need to do the band line-up again. You guys should already know that. One of my FAVORITE songs on here is Bridge and Tunnel Authority. The guitar part is so cool, and is so fun to play. I almost got it down. Same with the bass part. Its fun, its awesome, and I almost got that down, too. x100. Portrait of a Cigarette Smoke… is also a really cool and fun song to play. Especially on bass. Now, that song, I have down already. I even have it tabbed on Mxtabs. Ahem, I’m sorry. I shall stop at this moment. There aren’t too many other “creative" songs on here, though I do like Jay Frenzal. Cool song, very cool. I really can’t go into detail or anything about their playing, because its perfect, it really is. I’ve told you all their creative stuff, and that’s what I really look at/really like. So, I declare the Instrument part done.
Overall Thoughts, Opinions, and Rating
It seems as though every ***in’ review I do, I always give it a 4 or a 5. It’s impossible for me to give a CD lower than a 3 unless I REALLY hate it. Which ain’t too many CD’s. This one, I give a 4. This was a fantastic step up from Anthem, and I’m proud of LTJ. (Though, I’ve heard some songs off of their new CD. I don’t like them. Booo!)
Songs that grab my attention and ones that YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO.
Portrait of a Cigarette Smoker at 19
Bridge and Tunnel Authority
A.S.A.O.K.

Hey, good review chillbee... short and sweet...This Message Edited On 03.18.06

This review was good, except the instruments and stuff section. All you did is say how everything was really cool but never described anything without using the word "cool." Your review was also short, which isn't a bad thing yet I didn't think you went into enough detail about songs vocals and lyrics.
This album didnt do much for me. ASAOK is an excellent song, but everything else feels very watered down.

Yeah, I kind of rushed this review, since I was baby-sitting. But, there's always room for better reviews.
| | | Yay, chillbee! Nice review but the band don't interest me one bit.
| | | I don't know. I agree with Zebra, about describing things better, but good overall effort.
From what I've heard by these guys, they sound like a very good band.

A poor release from LTJ I thought. Better than Anthem but nowhere near any of their other records in my opinion.
| | | Well cant expect much from a B-Sides album, except in some rare cases.
Still want thins one though.

i still don't understand how the band thought that "bridge and tunnel authority" wasn't good enough to go on anthem... ah well, maybe they'd planned this one all along, and needed a killer ska track for it to revolve around.
either way, great album, and a great review as always chillbee!
