Good review and good album.
I liked the Nightmare tracks better than their rerecorded counterparts (save for Long Knives)

I think a few points have been missed in the review (which is a shame because the opening to it is fantastic).
After listening to this album constantly for a week, I think emphasis should be placed on the fact that this album is:
Technically brilliant
Masterfully recorded
Proficiently written
and completely un-listenable to anyone apart from hardcore listeners.
saying "it just may be the stagnant sword that kills it for casual listeners." is a gross understatement because this album is so difficult to follow. Most listeners will not be able to get their heads around the music flow and sweep it to oneside whereas other listeners (me and others) will enjoy the challenge of trying to follow their music.
I think the other main point is that their new material has far more hooks weaved into their songs to make them more appealing to the more mainstream audience (but it might be in vain).

Phalanx,
Good points you raise there. I should have made it more clear but what i meant by my ambiguous 'stagnant' comment is that I've played the album a few times in my car with mates present that don't really delve into the more extreme side of music. Granted they enjoy the odd Converge track but this is a totally different kettle of fish. To the uninitiated ear (theirs) its just "that kind of metal". To you or me, its much more than that.

I have their EP in physical form in my music collection and I don't even know why.

The bass and drumming (moreso bass) reminds me of LD50 era Mudvayne. which means it's the sex.

true, bass is slapped so it really does have that Mudvayne sound.
i think an immediate comparison with this band would be Sikth, although these guys are much easier to get into. i love both bands anyway.
