This EP is pretty much*a stopgap release between 2003's "Anthems Of Rebellion" (the album from which "Dead Eyes See No Future" is taken) and the recently released "Doomsday Machine."

"Dead Eyes See No Future" is the first track, and is the same version that appears on the album.* It's a great song, with plenty of lead guitar licks dotted around the place, as well as the obligatory solo, and a nice*slowing down*of the tempo between the verse and chorus to break things up a bit.

The three live tracks were all recorded in Paris sometime in 2004 and have great sound quality, better than what usually can be found on most band's live b-sides etc.* The band pull each song off perfectly, sounding even more brutal on record, with the highlight, in my opinion, being the amazing solos in "Burning Angel" and Angela's amazingly guttural roars particularly in the chorus of "Heart Of Darkness."

Now for the three reasons most people will buy this EP for: the exclusive cover versions!*

First up is a heavily downtuned version of Megadeth's classic "Symphony Of Destruction." If you're familiar with the original, you may be put off at first by the lack of melody in this.* The prechorus seems to be almost atonal, which is unusual for Arch Enemy, a band who are well-known for their melodic guitarwork.* However, it picks up after this small blip, and is a great song overall.

I can't really comment on how faithful to the original AE have been on "Kill With Power" as I am yet to hear the original, however it's an above average song, albeit with some knuckleheaded lyrics ("kill with power... die, die!" being one example), and theres some great guitarwork in there too.

"Incarnate Solvent Abuse" is the real jewel in this disc's crown. Carcass were an amazing band, and with Mike Amott finally being persuaded to play some material from his old band, we get to hear Arch Enemy's take on this awesome song.* If anything it sounds a little more raw than the original, and every riff is played with murderous intent.* Almost as good as the original!

Overall, this is a really good EP and well worth the money, because, pulling off a rare feat, the band have made what is essentially another odds n' ends release into a document of their live ferocity and their influences. Cracking stuff!

4/5

Good CD, one of the better Arch Enemy CDs. Review was too short though.

I like the cover of Symphony of destruction. Not as good as Megadeth's but it's pure heavy and her voice is really deep and intense on it.

I just started listening to them, love the live stuff. I think it's pretty epic that a chick is growling/screaming for a metal band.WE WILL RISE!!!
