1.5 very poor | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | December 2nd 20 | At my initial stages of discontent received the expected denial-bias treatment. It cannot be that The Streets would drop so low, I must surely be missing something. But right off the second spin I immediately knew what was wrong: this album cannot be described as anything other than 'flat'. And not flat as in lacking thematic or lyrical depth - although Mike Skinner admittedly is not at his best game here -, neither is it flatness meaning straightforwardness. No, it's flat, because it sounds flat. It sounds like half-hearted demo ideas repeated to insanity, played back from an old piece of discount hardware. It sounds crude, underwritten, perfunctory, tasteless. Flat as can be.
