Review Summary: These track names...this band name...and that's a 4? Hardcore is a tricky thing to get into. On one side of the spectrum is a bunch of party going scene kids, another side shows a bunch of pissed off guys at the same party getting drunk and getting into fights. But then there are the select few much like Killing the Dream, or Converge who are willing to delve into their honest feelings and admit they're not prone to sadness like normal people.
For the Fallen Dream is one of these hardcore bands breaking the mold.While they indeed play the same style as The Ghost Inside, or It Prevails nobody seems to have come up with a name for their new subgenre (we’ll think of something and add “core” to the end of it soon). For the Fallen Dreams plays this style very well, with melodic guitar sweeps and well executed breakdowns to boot. The vocalist utilizes a fast and well paced combination of death growls and masterful hardcore screams. Now most of you who read “breakdown” started to gag, don’t fret! this isn’t your regular Emmure, or Liferuiner album there isn’t a “breakdown a song” pattern neither, they simply use the occasional breakdown to help elevate the song when needed. The guitars no matter how you look it however are the highlight of this album, and it’s a extremely good thing as they manage to evoke the emotion better then the vocalist per say.
The first song on the album “Brothers in Arms” opens up with a very heavy focus on melodic sweeps and combined with the heavy vocals it creates a strange, but perfectly executed combination. It’s somewhat misleading though, as I’ve said not every song uses a breakdown, but this particular song seems to lead into a “breakdown and then chug-a-chug” about after a minute and a half. Not bad, and I’ve seen much worse, but purists will have their heads turn in disgust. “Hopeless” is another song that I give credit for it’s melodic/hardcore approach after a very hardcore-oriented opening, they manage to expertly lead into a very well done melodic piece to keep the song interest. “Never Again” is a highlight for it’s amazing heartfelt chorus, and even the breakdown sounds better then the average breakdown. “Falling Down” is another highlight very much for the same reason, and it’s extremely intricate guitar sweeps. “Changes” is a complete instrumental and shows off the guitar players ability, I personally think that even purists will give some credit to their ability after listening to this. “Vengeance“ is a nice compliment to the latter song, as it is the most aggressive/hardcore song on the entire album. “Through the Looking Glass” is however my personal favorite song as it manages to switch back to both of the styles of this band in a very unique way, and the outro chorus of “where do I go from here” manages to move me, also the added violins and cellos were an extra surprise.
All in all I’m pleasantly pleased with this band, with as many breakdown layering deathcore bands patrolling the music store racks it’s nice to see one band that manages to value structure over intensity. If you’ve been looking for a new hardcore band to listen to (and Deathwish seems to not be pushing anything out) I high recommend For the Fallen Dreams to you.

Now hardcore is something that is valued for it’s angst-filled energy, that’s a given.

As much as rap/hip-hop is valued for it’s music beat, pop for it’s catchiness, and metal for it’s heaviness, every genre has something that it revolves around; at least that’s how it used to be.

Hardcore is stereotyped into crappy-yelled vocals with crappy-yelled gang vocals, and breakdown after breakdown with every song lyrics just a giant layering of “*** you/I hate you”, but as I’ve noticed hardcore bands are starting to write more complex songs, with emotional lyrics, less breakdowns, and more well honed vocalists.

I could say it's grammatically incorrect, or that perhaps it's a run-on (a lot of them are), or it serves no purpose, or it has nothing to do with the item before it, or that comparisons are used far more than adjectives, or etc. etc. I'd really just rewrite this, because it's really really bad.

Brothers In Arms is an excellent song.
Review is not bad, just a bit wordy in places. Also, I wouldn't be categorising For The Fallen Dreams as hardcore. Not ever.

Its is possessive, not it's. I saw that like 4 times in the opening paragraph. And listen to what bitchfork said, that sounded good.
And album is meh but, like Sspedding, I love Brothers in Arms. When I saw them live they played it and it was fucken awesome.

Its a solid album for what it is, but i always find this type of music (lets call it melodic hardcore) lacks depth as a rule and this album is no exception along with It Prevails and the ghost inside.
