I've loved Spitalfield ever since i heard Gold Dust vs. State of Illinois off of Stop Doing Bad Things, and ever since then i've been a fan of their music. Their newest album, Better Than Knowing Where You Are, seems to me to be leaning more towards a straight foward rock record than just another pop punk record. The songs on this cd actually remind me more of Foo Fighters than any pop punk band, and it shows when you listen to songs like On The Floor (which has some very heavy rock riffs throughout) and Novocaine, which sounds like it could have been a b-side off of The Colour and The Shape (by the Foo Fighters, of course). The band has come a long way since I Loved The Way She Said L.A., and it shows very much on this record. Some memorable songs inclued the current single Secrets In Mirrors, the title track (which is quite catchy), Curtain Call (my personal favorite because of its straight foward FF rock approach), and (the only real mellow track on this cd) Novocaine. There are some negatives, however. One is the bass is not too noticeable, which is probably due to the fact that bassist TJ Minich left the band before the record was recorded (their current bass player is TJ Milici), however there are some moments where you do notice a nice bass line (i.e the final chorus on the title track). Another negative is, although the cd is about 38 minutes long, it feels quite short. With all this said, i still believe that this is the band's strongest recording yet, and shows how the band is maturing and becoming something way more than just another punk pop emo whatever type band. I definitly recommend this record to anyone who needs some refreshment in the genere, it's a breath of fresh air from bands like FOB and Panic! and probably the most meaningfull record in the genre at the moment.

Wow that was a short but informative review, good job. But I like one of Spitalfield's songs I'm not sure which one. oh well.

It was alright. Most of the songs sounded all really similar to me, with a couple exceptions. ...Listen is my favorite track.This Message Edited On 05.29.07
