The Mad Caddies are opening for Pepper soon. Why Pepper gets to headline boggles my mind.
I've been wondering the same thing... I think it has to do with their recent success...

Anyone know when the new streetlight album drops?

Catchthe22 03-27-2007 07:49 AM

Let's bump this thread since ska talk is going in the SM/BOTAR thread and someone just made a new ska thread...

So we all know the updates on the SM/BOTAR websites. excited for that stuff to go down.

I just got Arrogant Sons of Bitches Album: Three Cheers For Disappointment

I got some 9 month old recordings of my dead ska band. The recordings were one day recording after 2 weeks of no practice. We were supposed to record over our parts but we all had busy summers. Horn mess ups, the guitar and drums are a bit low, and the horns are a bit loud.... I mess up on vocals a little bit here and there. Who wants to hear some of them?

email me at bssromal@mtu.edu or aim: Catchthe22

I drum for a ska band called Hypersonic Quest in York England, and yesterday we were offerd a gig by a venue called Cert 18 in york to play with a band called Skaville UK, who are on the record label MoonSka World. I've not heard much about these guys only the stuff on their myspace, but if you guys know anything do say.

Are the Arrogant Sons Of Bitches as awesome as Bomb The Music Industry!?
Are the Arrogant Sons Of Bitches as awesome as Bomb The Music Industry!?
They are very similar,. one has the pros of a band with normal instruments and the other has the pros of labtop and looping.

i like it

sweboy 03-30-2007 05:03 PM

Bomb the Music Industry! > the universe.

I think that answers the question. ASOB rock though.

Henrik 04-02-2007 09:19 AM

haha yep ok.

Has anyone heard the new Big D album? What's it like?

Catchthe22 04-02-2007 01:03 PM

Yeah, it's okay. I think I gave it a 3.5. It's the typical I like some longs a lot and other songs I dont really listen to. Not as good as their other albums and the whole dub echo thing is over used. Some songs dont even call for it. I thought about doing a review but I feel too busy to do that.

Henrik 04-02-2007 05:18 PM

Ohh, I heard a lot of different views on it. Some said like you, others said that it sucked and had nothing on the earlier stuff.
I've also read very possitive reviews though, someone wrote that he thought it was the best ska album since Everything Goes Numb.

Jessizzle 04-06-2007 12:43 PM

new big d is amazing.

pedro durruti 04-07-2007 10:41 PM

Did they do more dub? I really liked what they did with Salem whatever whatever..

Ghostfire3 04-08-2007 11:34 AM

I haven't really given their dub stuff a listen. Is it good?

pedro durruti 04-08-2007 03:57 PM

What I've heard, Salem Girls or whatever. There are three different versions I think, and they all differ, but it's not necessary to get all three because they are just remixes basically. Which one is the best, I don't know, but you are probably an album downloader anyways.

Henrik 04-12-2007 07:35 AM

You can't get the official Salem Girls ep any longer anyway, only about 1000 were printed.
I have a copy, but I don't think it's that good. I would definitely listen to their ska-punk stuff before Salem Girls at any day. The best version of the song “Salem Girls” is the original. The second one is a dub version and the third one is instrumental.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new full length.

Shock 05-17-2007 01:31 PM

Leftover Crack

If you dont like Choking Victim you should still give leftover crack a try, they are like an improoved version of choking victim

Catchthe22 05-17-2007 06:00 PM

Choking Victim was a few okay songs. Leftover crack, I haven't heard anything worth getting into.

Jessizzle 05-27-2007 06:35 PM

iv always loved the loc..
and seriously

i cant stop jockin the new big d!!!!

Henrik 05-30-2007 10:25 AM

I've only heard Noise Complaint a few times, and so far it hasn't really got me hooked.
I would like to hear some more though.

cat destroyer 05-30-2007 11:14 AM

Have streetlight put out an official date for their new release yet? I doubt it :(

Kithkin 05-30-2007 03:43 PM
If you dont like Choking Victim you should AVOID leftover crack AT ALL COSTS, they are like a NOT AT ALL improved version of choking victim
Actually they're like a version of Choking Victim where the singer is terrible by even Choking Victim standards.

SkaRobotArmy 06-07-2007 02:33 PM

man, LoC is sweet.
also, so is Big D.
Not the BEST ska album since Everything Goes Dumb, but top 3.
Noise Complaint and Shining On got me hooked to buy it.
but the best songs are...
Steady Riot
Souped Up Vinyl
Raw Revolution

the ska punk is subdued but still there, though definately overshadowed by the dub echo which is really cool sometimes, but yea sometimes overused.

also, check out dave mcwanes writing and stuff on his site, some of its pretty cool.

-Superman- 02-04-2008 10:47 AM

Wow, you guys are all wrong. Leftover Crack is Choking Victim. Stza (Scott Sturgeon) sings for both bands. They all have pretty much the same members but i believe the change of name comes from the death of a band member (due to a drug overdose). In fact now that i think of it, it didnt even start with Choking Victim but with No Commercial Value, follwed by Crack Rock Steady 7 (who's only recordings are on the F-Minus/ Leftover Crack Split, the Leftover Crack songs are actually Crack Rock Steady 7 songs) then it went to Choking Victim. Both bands fall under the genre of "crack rock steady" to which there is a hefty list of bands who fall under this genre. Both bands play their own version of ska-punk with an obvious influence of metal/black metal.

Everyone has to realize neither are a genuinely ska/ ska-punk band. They just have elements of ska/reggae in their music.

Songs with an obvious influence from ska are:
Choking Victim Songs:
Choking Victim
500 Channels
Crack Rock Steady
Five Finger Discount

Leftover Crack:
Baby Punchers
Gang Control
Gay Rude Boys Unite
Crack City Rockers
Born To Die
Drug Song (Originally by Crack Rock Steady 7)

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

Its a shame that i come back after a couple years to see a dead thread...
