Jas is probably more active than I am. You could always send both of us the same questions and pick and choose the answers. It never hurts to interview more than one person. My gmail email is gunnarrambo[at]gmail[dot]com

Catchthe22 11-13-2006 10:02 PM

Alright thanks. Ill work on what questions to ask and send them out this week.

Kithkin 11-14-2006 07:09 PM

Fishbone have two songs off of their new album. One belongs in the Punk forum and one belongs here. Both are sick. I mean... Fishbone is sick in general. But these songs are sick compared to other Fishbone songs.

the-UK-ska-scene 11-14-2006 08:18 PM

Fishbone are playing here in 2 days just down the road from me. Unfortunately it clashes with Rancid. And Rancid are currently playing Knowledge and Unity as part of their set. Oh well Rancid it is.

Ghostfire3 11-14-2006 08:31 PM

Yeah, definitely go to the Rancid show.

Kithkin 11-14-2006 09:58 PM

Boo Rancid. Shouldn't Tim be helping the next pseudo-pop-punk princess write her album?

Fishbone have been really impressive as of late. I wouldn't be surprised if their new album is at least as good as World/Inferno's new one.

Henrik 11-15-2006 11:43 AM

Where are fishbone's songs available?

I'm about halfway through your questions C22.

This band gets my hearty recomendation:

Also, next post is 1800.

It's a midi file. My drums need criticized. Don't criticize my grammar. Criticize anything else too. Tell me what's bad about it. Don't tell me that the drums are only there for the first 12 measures, that I know.

Catchthe22 11-21-2006 12:52 PM

That is some great stuff. All the instruments work well together. What did you use? Garage Band?

oh btw you dont have drums after the first 12 measures. I dont know if you knew this :p

Kithkin 11-22-2006 06:48 PM

I used Guitar Pro. This may take longer than I thought. I planned to transfer everything into Reason and apply real instrument patches to the midi track, but I think I'm only going to do that with the Drums and the Horns. I think I'm going to have to do the 2 guitars and bass on my own. I wish I had a better microphone.

More Drums.

that was great. Have you used GP5? The RSE is great for bass and guitar. Meh for drums. Unfortunately still midi for everything else.

Captain_Fitzgerald 11-29-2006 05:42 PM

Here where I live there's a really good ska artist called The Alcoholic Freshman. http://www.myspace.com/thealcoholicfreshman.

There's a few things you should know.
1) He isn't an alcoholic, OR a Freshman. He's sober and out of high school. The name is a looong story.
2) This isn't a band. It's one guy. He does all this stuff himself, and at his live shows he jumps around and makes the audience play games and acts a damn fool.
3) You haven't appreciated him completely until you've seen him live.
AMAZING!

Catchthe22 11-29-2006 09:11 PM

I think he has already been mentioned in these forums by kithkin. But yeah he is similar to Bomb The Music Industry but not as chaotic sounding if i remember right. I will see for myself in about 10seconds when I click on the link and listen to it. Rambling. . .

Kithkin 11-30-2006 03:54 PM

Yeah, I have his cd. It came with a handwritten note of thanks. Ok, so it was on the top 1/3rd of a torn sheet of paper, but it was handwritten.

Henrik 12-05-2006 12:39 PM

Some dude offered me to buy Mighty Mighty Bosstones' album "Let's face it" by him for cheap. Is it any good? I've never really heard anything by them.

the-UK-ska-scene 12-05-2006 02:02 PM

Awesome album. I have 2 legit copies. Saw them both for about £1.75 in charity shops and I've never had the heart to sell the spare.

Ska Is Dead has come to England. Bomb! were ok, only played 2 songs I knew and Jeff lost my hoodie. Smashers were pretty good. Mustard Plug sounded so nice but I missed half their set.

Kithkin 12-05-2006 11:16 PM

Lets Face It is a great album.

Why do you get so much love in the UK when we get nothing at all here in Sweden.

Racism. :upset:

beso negro 12-14-2006 03:34 PM

I was just listening to the Specials, and I found out that the end of "Djs" by Sublime is a ripoff of "A Message To You Rudy."

but i'm sure you all knew that :p

My friend's uncles Ska band.

sweboy 12-14-2006 03:42 PM

There's not only lyrics from that song at the end of DJ's, the "Dready got a job to do..." part is from Bob Marley's "Ride Natty Ride".

So that's why no ska bands come near me. My swedish heritage:upset:

Henrik 12-15-2006 05:08 AM

I'm seeing a local skaband saturday... they haven't been playing together for some time... Should be good.

Kithkin 12-15-2006 06:36 PM

Where do you guys find ska information. Do you know of any blogs or websites that have good info? Even if it's just local or regional info?

the-UK-ska-scene 12-16-2006 11:13 AM

How I find out about ska stuff is I just go out to too many shows and see too many bands.

Aggrolites last night, awesome as always. Saw a 10-piece who are London based I think supporting, they were bloody wicked. - http://www.myspace.com/intensifieduk the most awesome thing was they reminded me a lot of Starpool who I haven't listened to in SO long!
I got soooo wasted afterwards, though, I paid for it all day today :upset:

In other news Neville Staple's Specials are playing with a band from my hometown tonight....But I can't be bothered to go cus they are playing in zone 3 and my travelcard only goes up to zone 2....so i would have to pay like £2 in travel to get there! Ha lazy days.

In other news the regurgitated Snuff band Pot Kettle Black are playing tomorrow and I can't go.....cus I'm gonna see Billy Bragg instead. Get in :)

Saw Howards Alias for the first time since they reformed the other day....it's pretty much exactly the same old which I guess is good if you were digging that kind of thing. Was an awesome show actually- Babyboom, Babar Luck, Howards Alias, Jesse James, Failsafe, Mouthwash, Sonic Boom Six. Safe as you like

and on an unrelated note, anyone who hasn't listened to Inner Terrestrials really has to. I'm trying to decide whether to see them next week....but if I do, it means I won't get home for xmas until xmas eve...and i haven't seen my parents for a while.... http://myspace.com/innerterrestrials

pedro durruti 12-18-2006 08:25 AM

Ya, Inner Terrestrials are great

Hedgedive 12-27-2006 01:55 AM

I did not know this thread existed.

I always made my Kalnoky fanboy threads in other forums...
