Bro! Darest you not even mention Mephiskapheles?! How about SKA-P? Can't exclude satanic ska or ska en espanol.
Ska-P sucks, Jamaica 69 or those mexican bands in that one thread are way better |
The Too-Toos

I've heard a couple of songs by The Toasters, and i really like them, but i'm not sure which album i should get  Any suggestions?
|
The Best Of. Then you only get the good tracks and none of the ****. I might add i dont really like The Toasters.

Thanks, I was considering getting that one too...Anyone else have a suggestion? |
I suggest you download songs...it's much cheaper, and you don't have to pay for ****. Screw corporate America, pirating is so much more fun. ROFLLOL

I checked the first few pages of the post but i didn't see either the Hippos or the Peacocks listed anywhere.
I don't really know a lot about either band except that they are both 3rd Wave and they both kick major ***. The Hippos are somewhere in the realm between LTJ and early Catch 22. The Peacocks are a somewhat more ecclectic from what i've heard. Here is a link to a review of the Peacocks http://ska.about.com/library/weekly/blrevjump022.htm If you are looking for sample songs check out "Diane" by the Hippos and "It's Not Too Late" by the Peacocks. |

I believe you mean SHE if you're referring to me, but thanks for the ideas for which album(s) to get. I'll keep them in mind, incase I don't have enough money to get all of them right away :) |

Lots of love, The artist formerly know as the-UK-ska-scene :) |
??? Why don't you ask for your accounts to be merged Jas?
I'm a stranger to ska by the way, so thanks for the list:) Downloaded the BOTAR EP the other week, it's great. |
Because I like to keep separate accounts. I like being the-UK-ska-scene because people can see I'm from the UK and I like ska. And I like Jas because it's my name. And I have Jas2 for spam, because I don't really like getting Jas or tUKss banned. And I have a couple of others which I'll keep a secret, and I hardly ever use anyway. Just because :)
EDIT: Plus if I get tUKss account merged with any of the others, it'll push my PPD up even higher. And Christ knows I don't need that anyway :upset: |
You're sassy;)

Whats a good album by the Paragons?

Rude Boy System: Good French two tone band

It's sad to see that this thread isn't more lively because ska is great :(
|
Yeah, we should turn this into like a ska community thread. Anyone been to any shows lately?
|
I agree about turning into a community thread. And nope i haven't been to a show lately, unfortunatly. I saw a local ska band play over the summer at a battle of the band, they were great, too bad I can't remember their name at the moment...
|
It's kind of sad that there's not more action in here, but the good thing is that it means we know any post in here will be informative or useful in some way. Maybe we could start another thread that would be the ska discussion thread? Seeing as the Other Music forum isn't the most busy in the world. I guess we could ask Kith or whatever.
Tonight I'm seeing Rx Bandits & Chris Murray. And I know Kith is seeing Reel Big Fish/Melee/The Littlest Man Band today (lucky bastard). Last ska band(s) I saw: [spunge], Whitmore, and Solabeat Alliance on the UKKO tour. |
five iron frenzy is teh gratest band evar!!!

Yeah, I agree about starting another thread. Perhaps in the Punk forum, because it seems like whenever I'm there someone is talking about a ska band or something related to ska. As much as you try to redirect them to here it doesn't work (probably because they think I'm a newb, my last account got banned because i'm an idiot). But someone should ask about starting a new thread elsewhere. |
I went to see Chris Murray and Rx Bandits last night. Wow it was ace. RxB were ok, they played mostly stuff from The Resignation, although they did play Nugget, In All Rwanda's Glory and Overcome (The Recapitulation). They got offstage half an hour late which was annoying because it kind of pissed off my ride home, and they could have got on earlier because Chris Murray didn't even get onstage until over an hour after doors (and everyone was inside by about 5/10 minutes after doors so there was a lot of waiting around).
Anyways, RxB was cool but Chris Murray was the reason I went and oh shizzle he was amazing. He got Steve Borth and Matt Embree of Rx Bandits onstage to sing with him for half his set as well, which was cool. I think there was only a couple of us in the crowd who knew who he was, but he got people singing and clapping along. He finally played Rock Steady because I'd been shouting it between every song (from the second row), and I danced a lot. If you can imagine me old skool skanking (all upper body, people), then robot old skool skanking, then throwing shapes, then doing all three at the same time in the middle of a circle of all my friends... Then well, you can imagine what happened. I was singing along, and Steve Borth kept laughing at me from the stage. Apparently at one point Chris Murray was laughing at me too, but I was facing the other direction dancing at that point. Anyways I met him after, hopefully he's coming back by next summer. So ace. And a lovely fella. He signed my Six Songs EP cover for me :) |

All your problems have been answered my friend. http://www.skascene.com/forums is an entire forum about ska. Just thought I'd put that out there. It has a few bugs to be worked out, and right now there aren't many people, since were transfering from another board, and stuff. [post=advertising/] |

And a lovely fella. He signed my Six Songs EP cover for me :)
I saw the London show they played on Saturday, was pretty darn tooting. I'm not that much into the Rx Bandits but I hadn't been to a gig in ages and I felt I was getting a bit too old-manish. Chris Murray's set was brilliant, and the backup singing from the Bandits really boosted the good vibes. I don't think I've ever heard a set that's made me beam as much as his, and he's playing in London on Wednesday at the Rhythm Factory if any of you kids wanna bust it down there and see him. No Comply also played, unfortunately I wasn't really in the mood for punk so I hung back for most of the set, but it was an entertaining performance nonetheless. Just watching them made me tired. The Bandits played superbly even if they were a bit stiff on stage at times, making a stand about dancing rather than moshing halfway through the set. (Hurrah!) unfortunately the encore was cut short by some twat pulling the fire alarm. (There certainly didn't seem to be a fire when we came out.) Did a guy called Josiah Jones play at your one? He wasn't ska but he was still a big fat bundle of awesomeness, he was a tall black guy with a telecaster playing the funkiest shizznit I think I've ever heard. It was just him but he had all the percussiveness and danceability of a funk band through his guitar playing, which as stated was badass. |
Nah, it was just the Bandits and Mr. Murray at mine. I like NoComply, that would've been cool :)
I know he's playing on Wednesday, but that's an 18+ right? Being 17 is awkward :( Should be good, though. He played about an hour away last night, I nearly went but I really couldn't in the end, no lift, and the trains stop running too early. Meh. Also I'm working Wednesday. Dammit. :upset: He's awesome. I love that man ;) |
Guys, I have an interview with Suburban Legends in issue #1 of my zine. It's free (free zines are the future, kids!) so if you want a copy, just email me at karate_kid138@hotmail.com with an address to send a copy to, and I'll try to sort it out ASAP. It's also got a bunch of other stuff in it, a lot of value for money at a cost of zero pennies! :D

I've been finding some pretty good underground ska bands, by using purevolume.com and I was wondering if anyone here knew of any other good ska bands that mp3s that I can download. Thanks.

You can see a jacksonville FL ska band there http://www.myspace.com/goodfortune
