Skalloween?
I plan on being an Aquabat or halloween!! wo and Jas: i would kill to see the King Blues. Lucky lady you are. EDIT: ATTN: EVERYONE IN THE DURHAM AND/OR TORONTO AREA! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/PSG/johnstonesshow2.jpg WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO |
I just saw the Streetlight/WWB/RBF/MXPX show, and the most memorable set to me was Reel Big Fish.I love their energy, you can see it go straight into the crowd when they start.I don't think they played very many new songs,I knew most of them.Streetlight was,of course, amazing. They mixed Point/Counterpoint and Keasbey Nights, which was cool because I've always thought about the correlation between the two songs.
By the way,Reel Big Fish play "Enter Sandman" anywhere else? |

RBF was incredible here, their energy as you said was amaing. Oh and they did play Enter Sandman here in DC... Streetlight also mixed some of their songs too... |
The Bosstones used to cover Enter Sandman... I think.
|
Yes they did, and its only one of the best covers ever...
|
So uh... Anything new in the world of ska?
|
Hmm you know that popular song 'Smile' by Lily Allen the british pop artist. It has a ska chord going on in it. And you know that Paris Hilton song 'Stars are Blind'? The offbeats are present. Ska is entering the pop scene but not in the best way for the genre. It is nice to hear offbeats on the radio but it is like feeding kids a magical gummy candy and not telling them the name. They will never find it again by themselves

So I just ordered a Toots and the Maytals box set with 50+ songs for 129 SEK = 18 USD/14 EUR/9.5 GBP. That's my kind of number. My CD collection will surely enjoy some Toots lovin'.

It'd been better if it was 54.46. |

That was a nice purchase. Toots and the Maytals are great. |
Sonic Boom Six just got added to the Reading/Leeds line-up, which brings the count of eminantly see-able bands up to LOTS. Well, lots more than the Carling fest usually has:
The King Blues, Send More Paramedics, Lightyear, Bouncing Souls, Bodycount, Gogol Bordello, Bedouin Soundclash, Goldie Lookin' Chain, Less Than Jake, Sonic Boom Six, Captain Everything!, Adequate Seven, Capdown, Against Me!, Flogging Molly, Millencolin, Anti-Flag, Rise Against, Reel Big Fish, Coheed & Cambria Safe. |
I hate you all the time.
|
You make me  all the time. England looking more attractive now ayyyy? :p I don't get to see all those bands as I gotta work 3 8-hour shifts over the weekend :upset: dunno who I'm gonna be missing yet!
I'm packing for the fest as I'm heading off to London in about an hour, then to the campsite tomorrow...Eurgh camping. I am also listening to P.A.I.N. right now who everyone should listen to yeah. http://www.myspace.com/dividmslstyletypetextcssaamanal |
I'm in love with Reel Big Fish now. :)
|
RBF's live album is the most amazing thing I've ever heard.
Edit: Reel Big Fish plays Enter Sandman?! |
RBF are sooo bad. Their lyrics are terrible and I don't like their sound. What's worse is that kids these days think RBF is what defines ska. It's so sad.
|
They have always been fun and are always about the ska.

Where did you do that? cdon.com? |
Where did you do that?
cdon.com?
Yeah ("Pressure Drop- The Definitive Collection"). But they had some kind of special sale campaign going at the time, so it was cheaper than usual. It goes for 179 kr now, but that's still a nice price. They also have another double CD, "Essential Collection" for 159 kr. |

Mwahahaha. I saw all the bands on my list except Bedouin Soundclash as I began work at 10.30 that night and they came on at 10.40! Hah gutted. But Barney from Sonic Boom Six gave me a pretty hefty shout out when they played Reading which made me feel very cool indeed  I just invested in that Mouthwash album, Kith, their new stuff is sounding immense too I saw them a couple times in the last couple weeks. It amazes me that you're listening to Workin Lunch, haha, semi local boys to me hardly anyone even around here has heard of them! I'm not too keen on them meself, I like their ska stuff but it's a bit few and far between. |
