It should be the IST, International Ska Tour, and they should play somewhere other than the middle of nowhere.

I hate that all the big ska things happen in the plains states.
Did you hear the Flatliners won and theyre opening for this!!!

maco 02-15-2006 12:00 AM

i'm with kithkin....middle of nowhere is not cool

though i think the NYC ska kids would say that here is the middle of nowhere....it's not though! there's actually a city here, although it's probably the only city where you see trucks with confederate flag bumper stickers driving through the city....we have rednecks IN our city! but kids here like ska....they're idiots that mosh to the toasters....but they come out of the woodwork for a good ska show

Kithkin 02-15-2006 06:39 AM

It's Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

http://www.bbvd.com/

I didn't see that, the ISC says they're still counting votes but I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm in the middle of nowhere too, but I don't mind driving 5 hours to NYC or 3 to Philly or somewhere in Jersey. Or 9 to North Carolina even.

Get Save My Soul by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, I bought it a few months ago and it's just a bit good.

I can't wait until May kids, who's coming to the Do The Dog 10th Anniversary bash in London? Last I heard is it's a 3 day thing now, not just one day, there'll be 4 bands on the Friday, 8 bands on the Saturday, and 8 bands on the Sunday.

Best thing? I finish my exams on the Friday. Worst thing? I have to have moved out of my halls by the Sunday morning at 10am. Sooooo I will figure something out.

TWO MORE AWESOME THINGS:
--It'll cost £25 for the WHOLE thing (Friday->Sunday)
--These bands are gonna play: Smoke Like A Fish, Too Many Crooks, Rebelation, Splitters, Skylar, Duff Muffin, Catch It Kebabs, 3 Minute Warning, The Beat, The Toasters, Rank Deluxe, The Scrub, Rough Kutz, The King Blues, Suicide Bid, Skaface, The Darling Reds, Southshore + 2 more bands

So, it's a date then?

-Superman- 02-15-2006 02:33 PM

I was wondering if anyone had any Smoke Like A Fish or especially My Dad Is Big cd's?

the-UK-ska-scene 02-15-2006 04:29 PM

I have Smoke Like A Fish's first 2 albums, but none of My Dad Is Big. If you like Smoke Like A Fish you might like Skylar.

If you want to read along while listening to the new 1234 1234

the-UK-ska-scene 02-23-2006 05:24 AM

Hey at the Reel Big Fish show last night they were playing like a ska/dub/reggae version of Dark Side Of The Moon, wtf? Most of it was pretty awesome, although the improvised screaming/singing part was a bit crap. But I was wondering who did this? Was it one artist or a whole bunch? & when did it come out?

EDIT: by "playing it", I mean it was the CD they were playing between bands.
EDIT2: yeah ok I suddenly remembered that Dub Side of The Moon that was released a bit ago. Hossome.

-Superman- 02-23-2006 09:27 AM

Keasby Nights by Streetlight Manifesto is a pretty decent album... I also hear they are going to release a new cd later this year... Is this true?

Kithkin 02-23-2006 02:28 PM

Well, someone says they're going to release a new BOTAR album and a new SM album at the same time.

But I don't know.

the-UK-ska-scene 02-23-2006 07:54 PM

Yes. :D Arrogant Sons Of Bitches Are Playing London, 18th March, The Garage. Mint. :D

Kithkin 02-23-2006 07:59 PM

Lucky woman.

I may drive to see BTMI play with some other electric one man band in Pittsburg on the 2nd

Special Brew 02-24-2006 09:24 AM

Anyone got suggestions of some swingish or really groovy ska music? I was suggested The Slackers, but I didn't like them too well. Anything really jazzy too. I'm not wanting the basic punk-ska or reggae-ska, if you know what I mean.

halfdeadhippo 02-24-2006 09:34 AM

Check out the Toasters for some swingin' stuff, and check out the Skatalites album Ball of Fire for some jazzy stuff.

Well if you want some nice straight up jazz/swing I'd say Cherry Poppin' Daddies, or The Littlest Man Band, both are awesome

Special Brew 02-24-2006 11:52 AM

I didn't particularly get into anything mentioned, except the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, who are sweet as hell. the Toasters were very good, but they didn't have that grrove feeling i am looking for. As far as ska goes, they will probably end up being one of my favorite groups. The Littlest Man Band's album I downloaded seems to be kind of acoustic based and slow, so I'm guessing it's probably not a good representation of their normal sound or anything. Is there a specific album I should check out?

Oh, and I haven't gotten around to checking out The Skatalites yet.

Any more stuff like The Cherry Poppin' Daddies?

halfdeadhippo 02-24-2006 12:47 PM

Perhaps some Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Brian Stetzer Orchestra, or other swing revival bands?

How can you not like The Slackers? They're f'ucking godly.

Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Brian Setzer Orchestra, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is what you're lookin for. Also check out The Planet Smashers, The Aquabats, and The Chinkees.

What 'other swing revival bands'? :p I don't know anything about this genre, so you guys will have to name the bands.

I'm not into the laid-back style of alot of ska music. I know the Aquabats, and I don't like them. I'll check out the others.

Jessizzle 02-24-2006 05:43 PM

Oh yeah. I love big bad voodoo daddy now.
and. CHRIS MURRAY.. greatest set of my LIFE.
He came on stage singing Rock steady, pretty much said he would play what we requested and as long as he was aloud to play.

That's whats so great about the slackers. The music they play is totally chill. Trad baby.

Well, I worded it the way I did because I don't know of any others, just that there's more. :p Sorry.

Would the Kings of Nuthin' count as swing revival? Either way, you should check them out.

Ghostfire3 02-26-2006 07:27 PM

the Kings of Nuthin' are a pretty sweet band.
