I feel like the Aquabats would be too gimmicky to be amazing live.

A truely amazing live band should be able to blow you away without costumes and staged fights/choreography.

Not saying that they wouldn't be entertaining to see. Just that what they're entertaining you with isn't a live band show, it's just theater.

pedro durruti 02-05-2006 10:17 PM

Plus, they have a big following for a ska band, which means virtually no dancing, just waves of pushing

the-UK-ska-scene 02-06-2006 05:02 PM

S.HIT :upset: Scott has been taken home from the Reel Big Fish Euro tour with the same illness he had before. This is gonna be BAD now. :(

Kithkin 02-06-2006 05:41 PM

That does suck.

Kithkin 02-06-2006 05:55 PM

On of the things I like about writing all these little blurbs is that often when typing "band myspace" into google will come up with a completely different band, that is awesome. Like the Super Pinapples came up when I searched for Jefferies Fan Club and Offbeat in Suburbia when I looked for King Django's purevolume.

the-UK-ska-scene 02-06-2006 06:01 PM

Super Pineapples make me wee <3

Kithkin 02-06-2006 07:36 PM

The Super Pineapples – The Super Pineapples are a band out of California with a great sound. They’ve been around since 98ish and it shows. Strong horns, catchy riffs and a talented singer ad up to one band that will not get out of your head. Listen at their myspace or purevolume.

King Django – King Django is a force in the Ska world. He may be the single most influential person aside from the lead singer of the Toasters in the American ska scene. He has produced countless albums, collaborated with too many bands to count, he owns Stubborn Records and has a quite a few releases under his belt. He play’s nearly any kind of ska you’ve heard of and it all sounds pretty good damn good. He has a few of his songs on his myspace. Just listen to Reason and try not to move.

Offbeat in Suburbia – Offbeat in Suburbia are a Jersey Ska band and you know what that means. If you don’t, it basically means that they know what they’re doing. Quick gang vocals, the slightest hint of hardcore thourghouly entertaining horn lines and guitar riffs and the ability to capture an energetic sound make this reletivly new band worth checking out either by purevolume or by myspace.

Pain – Pain is a poppy ska band with amusing lyrics and an amazing horn section. They play some pop punk and some funk and have a sound that I can only describe as fun. One of their songs is midgets with Guns. They're in your mouth and they shoot your teeth causing so much pain and the only way to kill them is with a girls tounge. They have an endorsed myspace and some other myspace.

Satori – Satori is a ska band on Asian Man Records. That’s it’s first plus. It’s made up of members of the RxBandits and features guest spots by Chris Murray and the Exit. It would take a lot to screw that up. A chill blend of soul, ska and reggae that will appeal to you if you like any one of the three. You can listen at their myspace or they stream songs on their website

Solabeat Alliance – Previously known as Spankboy, this band brings together Calypso Ska and Punk Rock. And Energy. Lots of Energy. You can feel it on all throughout the album from the slower Calypso tracks to the harsh punk breaks. You can download two tracks, Heroes and Set it Off, from Moon Ska Europe.

Kithkin 02-07-2006 11:32 PM

I don't remember writing that Streetlight Manifesto review. I just switched that one into the one I did for these forums ages ago (the one that was on sputnik sucked hard).

Has anyone listened to the new Tip the Van songs? They're sick.

I just ordered the Monkey Jacket cd, first album I'm buying without knowing for absolute sure it'll be awsome since the two King Apparatus cds. I'm about 90% sure it'll be awesome, but not 100%. It'll be here soon:)

Zappa 02-09-2006 05:02 PM

So the Skabominable Snowmen won the MSHS battle of the bands over 11 other groups. It was great fun.

Kithkin 02-09-2006 05:40 PM

I have 336 folders in my ska music directory...

I think I might have a problem...

sweboy 02-09-2006 06:08 PM

Don't worry man, recent scientific studies show that too much ska music is good for you.

-Superman- 02-09-2006 08:26 PM

So i'm sure you all remember me talking about screamo-ska... I found the band... They are called A Billion Ernies... Check 'em out at purevolume they really arent that bad...

Kithkin 02-10-2006 01:37 AM

Yeah, they kinda are bad. Skemo is something only the Impossibles can pull off. I have their album. It's one of those 336 folders. It entered the rotation once. Once...

They also might be christian, but I might be wrong, cause you can't understand a damn thing he sings. I don't know why I'm under this impression, but it's what struck me the first time I listened to them.

The lyrics I can understand don't really make any sense.

sweboy 02-10-2006 02:29 PM

Skemo. Horns and hearts, am I right?

Kithkin 02-11-2006 12:22 AM

rip Ibackstabfor4d6dmg and Commiecanada:(

Jas 02-11-2006 02:45 PM

What?

sweboy 02-11-2006 02:54 PM

*whipes tear off cheek*

Indeed Kith-rock, indeed.

Jas 02-11-2006 03:13 PM

What are you guys on about?

Kithkin 02-12-2006 12:32 PM

You woudn't understand, you're too young.

-Superman- 02-12-2006 10:27 PM

I love A Billion Ernies now :D
rip Ibackstabfor4d6dmg and Commiecanada:(
Commiecanada: The pop-punk mod that never was.

Ibackstabfor4d6dmg: The guy who invented the most overused saying in the punk forum.

Jonny 02-13-2006 01:26 PM

So I recently got into the awesomeness of the Bosstones, and I was wondering what their best album is.

I have Awfully Quiet and Question the Answers atm.

the-UK-ska-scene 02-13-2006 02:27 PM

^^Generic answer = Let's Face It

...That'd also be my answer

sketchyjoe 02-13-2006 02:33 PM

I like Pay Attention! the best.

Kithkin 02-13-2006 06:10 PM

Their last three (Let's Face It, Pay Attention, and Jacknife to Swan) are the most listenable albums. The live in the Middle East album is probably pretty good too.

-Superman- 02-14-2006 10:47 AM

I really want to see the ISC Festival... Great line-up...

In other news i think Less Than Jake is playing the Warped Tour this year...

Kithkin 02-14-2006 02:37 PM

It should be the IST, International Ska Tour, and they should play somewhere other than the middle of nowhere.

I hate that all the big ska things happen in the plains states.

Jessizzle 02-14-2006 02:48 PM

I was told to check out a band, And i kinda forget the name, which may be the reason i cant find anything on them, Does anyone know anything about a band called ( or similarly named) Big Bad Voodoo Daddies? and where i can find their music.
