I have that Jump with Joey album.

If you aren't on Purevolume, get on it and myspace and tagworld...

Zappa 01-22-2006 08:24 PM

We haven't recorded yet.

Kithkin 01-24-2006 04:44 PM

Why is greenday's cover of Shout on Bullet in a Bible a ska song... other than it follows King for a Day which is another ska song.

And man, their trumpet player is good on those two songs.

-Superman- 01-24-2006 07:18 PM

Hey guys its been a while... I went to the Less Than Jake Show @ the 930 Club... It was $$$...

Does anyone here like the Voodoo Glow Skulls?

Kithkin 01-24-2006 11:50 PM

They have a great live show, but their recorded music sucks.

Permanent Solution 01-25-2006 01:41 AM

I like their recorded music :-\

Band Geek Mafia is my favorite of their albums.

sketchyjoe 01-25-2006 06:52 AM

I agree with Kith's VGS assessment.

Are The Slackers worth going to see? They're playing near me in April.

Should I go see Desmond Dekker in June? It's going to cost me £20 ($35).

the-UK-ska-scene 01-25-2006 09:23 AM

Yeah sketchyjoe Slackers will be awesome, you're talking about the Garage gig? Me and a couple mates will be attending comecomecome.

Kithkin 01-25-2006 09:40 AM

I suggest getting in shape before seeing the slackers. They play for a very long time:)

pedro durruti 01-25-2006 12:24 PM

I suggest getting very baked

sketchyjoe 01-25-2006 01:00 PM

You suggest that for everything Pete.

What about Desmond? Is he worth it for £20?

the-UK-ska-scene 01-25-2006 03:10 PM

I just realised you got Spider Jerusalem as your usertitle dude. I was gonna bring all my Transmetropolitans back to Uni to re-read them as it's been too long, but I forgot! So annoying.

Maybe the way to go is to just get drunk for Slackers, I find you rarely feel the strain of any strenuous exercise when drunk.

pedro durruti 01-25-2006 03:40 PM

Yeah but if you're stoned you can just chill out in front of stage and have a blast
You suggest that for everything Pete.

But for the Slackers, it's a requirement.

I wouldn't pay $35 to see Desmond, nor would I for any other band.

Kithkin 01-26-2006 12:51 AM

Yeah 35 is a hefty price.

I paid it for the Living End... but I wouldn't pay it for any other band.

I always want to do stuff when I'm drunk. Or at least the period between tipsy and comatose, though I've been in pits after several pints and it really screws your stomach up.

I'll probably go see The Slackers then. There's some great gigs coming up this year.

Kithkin 01-26-2006 01:39 PM

I don't drink at most shows. It's expensive and I don't need it to have fun.

I just drink around friends, cause most of my friends are kinda boring.

Jessizzle 01-26-2006 01:54 PM

THEY WENT ON SALE 4 MINS AGO! HURRAY UP!

Yeah I get kinda shy about dancing when I'm sober (although if I'm with a load of friends, or I'm hyper, or it's an ace band I usually overcome this). After a couple drinks I proper loosen up, so sometimes I'll have one or two drinks, or if I have to dance for like 7 bands, I will have a couple drinks at some point.

But pretty much for all shows I stay sober, I wanna remember every little detail. Plus going into the Underworld always makes me feel drunk for some reason, I always walk into things in there :upset: Plus I need to save $$ as I am poor.
I just drink around friends, cause most of my friends are kinda boring.
That just made me proper LOL.

sketchyjoe 01-26-2006 09:39 PM

The Jazz Cafe has tons of great bands but it's always so expensive. The Skatalites played their a few months back and it was £20. and not only is Desmond Dekker playing there but Lee 'Scratch' Perry's doing a three night mini-residence which is £22.50. Maybe I'll try and get my dad to buy tickets.
I just realised you got Spider Jerusalem as your usertitle dude. I was gonna bring all my Transmetropolitans back to Uni to re-read them as it's been too long, but I forgot! So annoying.
My mate lent me the entire series and I had to read them all at once. They're so cool.

Do you have any idea what the GCF ticket price will be? I can't find any info online.

pedro durruti 01-27-2006 04:01 PM

Depends on the venue, but they are playing here for relatively cheap ($8)

the-UK-ska-scene 01-27-2006 10:28 PM

sketchyjoe, yeah my mate lent me the ones in the series that I didn't have & I was reading like one book a night  is so addictive. I'm afraid I don't know how much the tickets for GCF are gonna be but I'm sure it won't be much!

Yeah Jazz Cafe does have some ace bands, & yeah it's too expensive. My mate went to see Skatalites there but I just couldn't afford it :( I thought Lee Scratch Perry had already done his 3 nights residency? Wasn't that back in October? Cus I know he did one aroud that time, & I missed it, is he doing another one?? (I remembered on the last night last time, kicked myself a lot for that!)

I've just seen that The Selecter are playing The Standard in Walthamstow on Saturday Feb 4th, for £10 on the door, ace The Standard is a cool venue!!!! But then I remembered that I already got tickets to a different gig on that day :upset:

Also did you see that The Beat & Neville Staples are playing Islington Academy on April 1st? I would go, but it's the same date as Planet Smashers & Random Hand at Underworld (which will be far too amazing also). I will be at the Underworld show.

sketchyjoe 01-28-2006 06:40 AM

I might go to some of those gigs. Scratch is doing another residency in June.

This made me ROFL

Kithkin 01-29-2006 10:57 AM

Thats jeff from ASOB?

Heh, well, that became obvious. He's hysterical live.

sketchyjoe 01-29-2006 11:12 AM

My favourite bit:

"Sublime sucks."
"Sublime?"
"You know, Sublime, the band that sucks."

Zappa 01-29-2006 12:05 PM

The Skabominables are recording today. If we get anything worth posting, it will be posted.

Kithkin 01-29-2006 12:23 PM

Awesome... are you from somewhere in PA. I know you're from somewhere near the Distorted Pengins.

Zappa 01-29-2006 12:45 PM
Awesome... are you from somewhere in PA. I know you're from somewhere near the Distorted Pengins.
I'm from Michigan. I have no idea why they came all the way up here those years ago.
