None of them sound Identical, but there is an influence there.
Death By Stereo plays in a similar genre so their's is the most apparent. The flatliners have a style most similar to the suicide machines, but the deceptivly simple chording and straightforward lyrics are typical of bigwig too. Big D and Bigwig, well, it's more in the way they play than in the sound. You'd have to have seen them both to understand. |
I see. Anyway Bigwig are much better than all those bands, at least from what I've heard of them, I'd love so much to see them live...
And so SM, and Catch 22, am I the only one who loves Alone In A Crowd? |
Nope. I love all of Catch 22s albums, but i like the last 2 in a diffrent way then i like Keasby nights.
And now theyre saying mustard plug is playing the frostbite tour also. |
I hear rumours of A Billion Ernies touring UK in April ;)
I also hear rumours of the Scrub's saxophonist leaving :upset: |
2 things.
1) While Lemon Demon isn't a ska band, they are something you'll like if you like the Aquabats or They Might Be Giants. Watch the video and try to deny it. The website has about 20 free songs on it. All of them are great. website - http://www.eviltrailmix.com/lemondemon/ myspace - http://www.myspace.com/lemondemon video - http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/285267 2) If you want something from me, send a gmail email address to skarunner (at) gmail (dot) com |
Hey Kith I heard this totally boss new band, "The Streetlight Manifestos"
|
I love ska, but i dont nearly have enough on my PC.
Ive gots lots of Mad Caddies and Bosstones, there great, but i need more. /reads thread for bands to d/load.
umm... i have every bosstones cd ever made (because i'm a huge lifelong fan ofcourse) be sure to get of the bosstones cd's Devils Night Out Dont Know How To Party Jackknife to a swan Lets face it live at the middle east more noises and other disturbances pay attention (the most underrated cd ever, listen to it, i garuntee it will be one of your favs) Question the answers Ska-core the devil and more thats just to name what i have, i'm sure they have a lil more... but i have gotten a chance to see them live december of 2002 on their last tour before they went hiatus, it completly sucks because i always grew up on these guys, but i never actually really considered them my fav band till i saw them live, and ive been to concerts before, and i have yet to find bands who can do better then them. i put them at #1 at the top of ska bands period, for the fact they practicaly made ska for what it is today, they had done it for so many years and because how talented they are (AND THEY ARENT PUNK) now that that's cleared up, i'm sick of people mixing them wit ska-punk bands, it iritates me. and plus they are from boston, go red sox! |
I saw Bosstones October 2002, and I'm so glad I did!
Out of those releases I have: Jackknife to a swan Lets face it more noises and other disturbances pay attention Ska-core the devil and more I think I might have Devil's Night Out as well but I'm not sure. I love Let's Face It, I have 2 copies cus they were like 60p each in junk shops, why do people trash good CDs like that! |
I managed to see them headline a show in Allentown. But I didn't know many of the songs when I saw them (it was with the Pietasters and Catch 22 and VoodooGlowSkulls)
Now they're one of my favorite bands and I'll probably never get to see them again:( |
Does anyone have any Bigwig stuff I could have a listen to? I'm probably going to see them with the Planet Smashers and since Bigwig is headlining I'd like to know what I'm getting into.
|
Think Propagandhi.
Sent me an email, I'll hook you up. |
pay attention (the most underrated cd ever, listen to it, i garuntee it will be one of your favs)
I love that album but I haven't listened to it in ages. |
So I'm going through all the new music I've gotten in the past few months but haven't listened to...
The standouts are: Elvis Jackson - Summer Edition - Made me say wow out loud and made me want to stick around and listen to the whole album rather than move on to scouting out the next artist. Flavio y la Mandinga - Cachivache - If Ska-P is Less than Jake, these guys are the Mad Caddies? Spanish ska band. Matthew Reynolds - Loss in Sound - Skylar - st - No surprise here, anything dealing with Howards Alias seems to be golden. Except their last album for some reason. No Roses - Hell or High Water - Ok... not ska in any way. Think hardcore like Strike Anywhere. But it's local PA hardcore and it may be the best hardcore ep released last year. Ruins - The Brad White ep - Really good but poorly recorded opivy type ska. This is from 2000 and I hope they recorded something else, but I can't find them online because the label is defunct and a google search of ruins leaves me searching old world architecture. The band had a lot of potential. Ska Ska Club - Sound Connection ep - Aside from the TSPO definatly the best ska band from Japan. It's less poppy and deeper than most japanese ska and the guy can sing. The Delegates - The Diary Of Hamilton Fish - Ska-core with a bigger 1st wave ska infuence than most ska-core bands. Yum Yum Orange - Orange Juice - This is pure japanese pop driven ska and it's awsome. I have no idea what they're saying but they cover Cartoon Heroes which is a song on some DDR mix. |
Hey Kith, I can hook ya up with a Matt Reynolds acoustic of These Lights he played for a compilation, before Skylar was around, if you want?
|
So has anyone seen that thingy over on Sputnik about Reel Big Fish switching their horn section for a string section and taking their next album in a completely different direction?
Is it true cos I've not seen it mentioned on any other site... |
Err, dunno, I severely doubt it but they can do anyyything they want now they've got rid of Jive!!!! BACK TO THE ROOOOOTS!!!!
|
They were nowhere near as interesting without Scott....
|

http://www.myspace.com/painantidote Remember when I said you should listen to Pain and then posted links to Interpunk. Yeah, now they have some myspaces and they're putting their music on Itunes and releasing a DVD. Listen to them now! |
Can't have this on the second page.
Listen to Bonkaponxz: German skapunk: http://www.bopx.ch/music.htm Don't worry, they sing in English. |

Made a new website with my pictures on it, some are a bit pants but please have a look & gimme opinions or whatever. On there, you'll find pics of: Streetlight Manifesto, Suburban Legends, Howards Alias, Catch-It Kebabs, Antimaniax, & Skylar, amongst others. I will listen to the music some other time when it's not 3am & I could piss off everyone else who's already asleep. |
The Toasters, Satori, Westbound Train and Uprite Dub Orchestra on Feb. 26th. Finally, some trad and two tone where it isn't 21+. There are some really nice shows coming up, GCF a week before this one and World/Inferno Friendship Society with Subhumans and Born/Dead a month later.
:D :D :D |
Satori, ahhh I would love to see that band.
I am seeing Good Clean Fun next week, my housemate's ex boyfriend (lovely guy, they're still best mates), his band is touring the UK with them, so we're seeing them in London. should be ace! |

|
Who are the openers?
|
for some of the shows it will be big d and the kids table, damone, and rock and roll soldiers. on the others it will be a wilhelm scream instead of big d but the other two are the same. the international dates don't have openers listed yet
|
I'm in a band called The Skabominable Snowmen. I play trumpet. We have two songs. They are fantastic.
|
Nice, are they on purevolume, or anywhere else on the web?
