2.

1 to do the picking and 1 to chant pickituppickituppickituppickitup

few_dollars_more 12-06-2005 06:38 PM

I'll give it to ya. I was going to say:

Two, one to drop it and one to pick it up, pick it up, pick it up.

Don't worry I'll be here all week.

Kithkin 12-06-2005 06:47 PM

Yeah, thats better

the-UK-ska-scene 12-08-2005 06:42 AM

There's a bit near the end of the new Harry Potter where Snape says "Pick it up! Pick it up!"

There's also a bit where Harry says "When I was in the graveyard, mine and Voldemort's wands connected" OH the joy

Planet Smashers - Cool Your Jets is one of the best songs ever. (it's in my head right now)...Can't wait for their tour :D

Well I finished uni for Christmas on Monday. 6 weeks of pure joy & sleep now ensues. I made an awesome PUNX jacket, lol, so far I have made a massive Operation Ivy back patch & sewn it on there, & also painted the :antimaniax: logo on the back, and BOTAR wings, & I put 2 more patches on - Filaments and Captain Everything! More to follow.

You is the p.u.n.x jas!

the-UK-ska-scene 12-09-2005 01:33 PM

 I know Swe, I really am.

I finally got my bum to the 56a Infoshop in London, which shares a premises with a vegan/organic food co-op, it's such an awesome place. Zine library, tons of zines for sale, records, CDs, loads of other stuff. Awesome. In a bit of a scary part of town though (although my brother used to live there, haha) as they have been squatting the building, had to walk through a bit of a dark scary estate.

Anyone heard The Cat Empire? My mate just played me them. They're like, latino/ska/other from Australia. Apparently their 2nd album was a bit more pop/latino and they broke into mainstream-ish. But I was listening to their first album it's got a really good vibe, a couple of bits reminded me of OC Supertones but even if you don't like them you should check them out.

Gnarmageddon 12-09-2005 02:07 PM

I made a kickass wire sculpture guy skanking in my art class. When I bring it home I'll try to get pictures of it.

Kithkin 12-09-2005 10:30 PM

I think I'm friends with Cat Empire on Myspace!!!!!11!!

Did you know that the guy from At the Drive In had a ska band called the Dregtones? It's ok music. At the Drive in is was a definate improvement.

The Ordinary Boys do a poor cover of Little Bitch, though not quite as bad as Bus Stop's cover.

I think the reason I never liked Less than Jake is that I think Pezcore sucks and everyone always says their newer albums suck. I still think Pezcore sucks, but whatever album is on my mp3 player is really good. It has History of a Boring Town and Science of Selling Out, both of which are Karaoke songs:)

If you like Ska, you'll probably like Panic at the Disco!

My summer enrichment jazz band teacher was the lead trumpet player on Catch 22's Keasbey Nights....I dont really like ska that much, but its decent music.

few_dollars_more 12-10-2005 11:53 PM

Thats pretty sweet. Keasbey Nights is like one of the best albums in ska IMO.

And on Kith's note, Panic at the Disco! is a pretty sweet band. I heard them for the first time on my friends I-Pod the other day, so it's funny you bring that up.

the-UK-ska-scene 12-11-2005 09:10 PM

Saw The Big tonight, BIG HOTTNESS. It was awesome, truly. Good good band. Saw a band called Goldmaster Allstars, who I hadn't even heard of before, but they were ACE!!!!! Had multiple singers, including a reggae legend and a 14 year old kid who had a brilliant voice. Saw Pama International too, very very good, better than I thought they'd be! And Toasters headlined, what more can I say! They were brilliant I was too tired to dance but I tried!!!!! Hah.

Last time I saw the toasters, my leg collapsed underneath me on the next to last song.

I'm the guy in the Strike Anywhere shirt.

Jessizzle 12-18-2005 02:40 PM

so. Im seeing chris murray in feb. For Ska fest, 2 night event.

the-UK-ska-scene 12-19-2005 08:16 AM

Yo Kith, I tried looking at that vid but it just ain't working for me. My computer wouldn't play it. Bummer.

Saw a band last week called Left Alone, they were playing mostly punk but with the odd bit of awesome ska in there. They were American, I think they said something about coming from California. Yesterday I saw a band from London called Crack Howard, they were well rough but I reckon if they stick around they will get really good. They played ska and proper punk, a bit like the mix Antimaniax have, with similar vocals (they also sounded a bit like Adequate Seven vocals, I think they take a lot of inspiration from Household Name Records bands). Oh and I saw Kenisia last night, finally. Amazing band, if you like Starpool and other bands like that, they mix a whole group of genres though - disco/soul/rock/skacore/ska, etc.

Ok and a non-ska recommendation for Kith or anyone who likes Kid Dynamite type stuff, I saw Random Heroes play the other day, they were amazing. Also You, Me and the Atom Bomb are excellent, hear them too.

Converted it to .wmv so it should play on any windows system with windows media player.

sweboy 12-19-2005 02:58 PM

I watched it. You crazy white kids and your music. Couldn't really spot anyone with a Strike Anywhere shirt though.

I though they were a very typical Hellcat sort of band when I saw them. Nothing special.

Yeah, I've seen Left Alone too and I agree with you that they sound like a typical Hellcat sort of band. And it's like you said, they're nothing too special. I talked to the singer/guitarist and he was pretty cool. You can definitely detect the influence of Rancid in their music. The singer even had Rancid tattoos. (He also had Clash tatoos, which were much cooler.)

Look,

Saying I was the guy with the Microphone just seemed to easy. I could also have told you it was a grey t-shirt but eh...

So I am a TOTAL n00b to ska and it's followers.

The other day I downloaded a song from the first Tony Hawk (which I have always loved) Superman- Goldfinger

Would this be considered ska or anything? Because I love the song and ska music really intrests me

Hey man, that's the song that got me into all sorts of ska/punk music :) Yeah as it goes, that would fit under the ska-punk category, as that was off their Hang-Ups album which was sort of their foray into the genre, they have changed since.

Black Ink 12-23-2005 06:40 PM

I finally get to see Big-D and the Kids Table after missing them twice. They're playing with Catch 22 as well on the 27th for a Christmas show. \m/

Pale-Folklore 12-27-2005 11:22 PM

Black Ink 12-28-2005 05:14 PM

I saw Big D and the Kids and Catch 22 yesterday. I snagged both their set lists too but I gave Catch 22's to my friend who is crazy over them and kept Big D's for myself.
