I love this thread, all the information about bands and such, but I only know a handful of those bands' stuff. Streetlight Manifesto, The Specials, Catch 22, BOTAR, Op Ivy, Sublime, maybe some more. I'm lookin to get more into stuff like The Specials, and The Untouchables (who weren't on the list), so if anyone has any recomendations based mainly on those bands, that'd be great. You see, I have dial up, and a sucky computer, so I don't want to spend an hour downloading a song (2 or 3 on a good hour, maybe even 4 or 5 on a great hour) to find out I don't like it. Recommendations will be highly appreciated.

tis a great thread isnt it? I didnt know that about all those bands, but now i do :thumb:

the-UK-ska-scene 08-17-2004 03:34 PM

*Uncle Brian aren't very good.

I don't know whether I've mentioned them, but for good new(ish) English ska/punk stuff, check out Catch-It Kebabs.

WorkingClassHero 08-18-2004 09:38 AM

Amen to that, theyre the kind of ska-punk band that sucks.

MothEatenDeerHead213 08-19-2004 11:06 AM

the-UK-ska-scene 08-19-2004 12:55 PM

No he sings.

I decided I'd just try to download something by everyone up there, I'm already up to Arrogant Sons Of Bitches, only about 80 more bands to go. This thread is much appreciated by all.

Bartender 08-23-2004 06:32 PM

There's already a Ska thread stickied on the first page. Isn't there a link to this in there?

the-UK-ska-scene 08-23-2004 07:21 PM

WorkingClassHero 08-25-2004 08:45 AM

I saw this in some record sleeves, Tyler, who plays the trumpet for RBF on "Cheer Up" is in the line up of the Skalars, on their "Change Up" album - with a picture and everything, and its definately the guy. This guy has a trad-ska education, how cool is that?

the-UK-ska-scene 08-25-2004 01:48 PM

That's pretty bitchin'. I'm seeing RBF again this weekend, w00t, I love that band :)

By the way, if anyone's been trying to get onto SkaScene.com, it's not working right now! Big problem with the server, basically it crashed and they have to re-create my account. Then I have to re-upload all of the content. Eek.

Anyways, my account won't be re-created for about another week, so I will put the site up again when I get back from Reading. Stuff like this sucks, it sets the site back loads :(

WorkingClassHero 08-26-2004 04:51 AM

Yeah, i wondered what was going on with that.

Yeah they were at Leeds as well, on the Saturday I think. They were ok, just not amazing live. Didn't play much old stuff but played a really ska'd up version of Where Have You Been, it was amazing. :D

the-UK-ska-scene 08-31-2004 08:19 PM

Wah00, SkaScene is back up, after a short enforced hiatus! The new forum may be temprary (yes, new forum, sorry for any previous members but the database for the old forum was lost again  ). But anyways please browse and have a look at the slightly different site.

Kithkin 08-31-2004 11:11 PM

Woohoo

the-UK-ska-scene 09-01-2004 09:41 AM

You say woohoo, and yet you don't flock back :(

Kith, you're off my Christmas card list.... :)

WorkingClassHero 09-08-2004 03:05 AM

the-UK-ska-scene 09-08-2004 08:36 AM

The Scentless Apprentice 09-12-2004 08:16 AM

hey whats ska scene?

the-UK-ska-scene 09-12-2004 12:53 PM

The Naked Citizens are cool  I think it was an Aussie dude who told me about them, nice band mate.

SkaScene is www.skascene.com, a website I started with 2 other mxers (LeeM and SkankinBassist or whatever he's called right now ;) ). Other people from this site also contribute, and even though we've had some technical problems we have a small forum community up again now as well.

CUt heRE 09-13-2004 12:31 AM

Does anyone like the Slackers? I'm thinking of seeing them next month. If I do go, it'll be my first ska concert. :) I just have to convince my friend to go with me, she likes going to cheap concerts. (The price of tickets is only $12.50)

WorkingClassHero 09-15-2004 02:16 AM

Doooo iiiiiitttt!

FillInTheBlankHere___ 09-15-2004 03:12 PM

The Rude Dudes are an awesome local ska/punk band, though they're not as thrashy as they claim to be. http://www.purevolume.com/therudedudes

WorkingClassHero 09-25-2004 11:09 PM

Good. Because thrashy plus trumpety equals sucky.
