Think this thread has had too many posts without new discussion?
Who's looking out for you? New bands. Certifiably better than that new album by that band you like. http://www.purevolume.com/thesuperpineapples http://www.purevolume.com/monkeyjacket http://www.purevolume.com/uptowncreepers *the uptowncreepers are only certified by the other peter. not this one. |
OoOoOo the Uptown Creepers are good. I hope to see them in the future
|
spunge, suicide machines, bosstones and capdown are my favourite ska bands, but catch 22 i'm getting really into nowadays. i'm gonna check up a lotta recomendations from the first page, too. this thread is awesome.

I dont watch much of his show, are they the main band or what? |
They are like Max Weinberg's or Kevin Eubanks's band.
I think they are just doing it while Carson is in LA, but they did write his new theme song. I don't watch his show either, but yesterday I just left nbc on for Conan, Carson, Leno and Conan since it was my day off and I work third shift. |
They've been his house band for awhile now and Caron's studio is in Burbank for good now.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy are ace.
Last night I went to a ska show, Random Hand/The Lock-Up/Speaking Of Losers/Workin Lunch/Catch-It Kebabs, it was so ace. Really good night. Tonight I am going to see some local ska, including Mighty Snortin' Powder Rangers...Oh man, these guys split up a year ago but they're re-uniting for one show. They're amazing. Seriously. Today I managed to copy the Skylar CD off a friend and WOW they are amazing. They're a Howards Alias side project, and they cover The Anti-Life (Howards Alias song off The Chameleon Script) as well as doing a song called 'Howards Alias', they are truly ace. They are more ska than HA, and more reggae influenced, wow they are hot. They have a myspace - http://www.myspace.com/skylar but they don't have much on there, if you want to check out more then hit me up on MSN if you have it already (I'm guessing you'll want to hear this Peter), or gmail me jasgrieve @ gmail.com, or AIM me at skapunk mcdoo |
:)
Yeah, BBVD are very entertaining. What is it with Ska/swing explosion bands and late night talk shows. BBVD are on Carson and The Bosstones singer is (or was) on Kimmel. http://www.myspace.com/tipthevan Thanks to Black Ink, circles is a great song. And the myspace versions of those bands in my last post (save super pineapples) http://www.myspace.com/uptowncreepers http://www.myspace.com/monkeyjacket |
Oh, and everyone must listen to the Flatliners, from Canada.
http://theflatliners.com/index2.html (free songs on the website) They're my favorite band of the moment, replacing even the Stray Bullets and Streetlight Manifesto. Described as a combination of 2-tone and punk rock by other people (I wouldn't say that, but other people seem to, like the Union Label Group). They have an amazing album out called Destroy to Create. If you want a sound, think a harder Stray Bullets, The Suicide Machines if their punk stuff had ska in it or Against All Authority if their singer was better and they recorded in a good studio and without horns. Reviews - http://www.earmedicine.com/100499.php "It is incredibly rare to come across a self-produced, label free CD that is fantastic from start to finish. Most CD’s put out by the unsigned should really only be EP’s, however this CD is solid from start to finish. When trying to select songs for the download section I ended up simply listing the ones available on the site, it was just too difficult to pick. While some of my favorites are not available on the site to sample, I can assure you the CD is worth picking up to hear them. With the CD cleanly recorded and produced, songs like Bad News, Do or Die and Gullible are among my favorite songs of the year." |
skankin'sophr was supposed to upload their album for me, but hasn't got around to it yet. The only song I have by them is Freds Got Slacks. I love it :D.
|
there are three downloadable on the website

That site streams Everything Goes Numb...Idk if anyone cares |
I recommeded this band elsewhere, so it'd make sense if I did here too.
Tip The Van: http://www.myspace.com/tipthevan <~~Listen "Circles" and "Paradise" http://www.purevolume.com/tipthevan <~~~~ "One Night Stand" They played three stops on Warped this year. |
All this talk about the Flatliners is weird, I have a buddy who used to go up to Toronto a weekend every couple of months and would always comeback talking about this band called the Flatliners, and I pretty much dismissed them because he otherwise had a horrible taste in music. I guess he showed me.
My friends' ska band and a few others are going on a short week long tour through some of Ontario, I'll post the dates and bands later once I get them if anyone is interested. |
What kind of role does Fishbone play in ska revival in America? They formed in 1979 in LA and were playing ska and reggae throughout the 80's. They released their self-titled in 1985, two years before Operation Ivy was even a band. Of course they weren't entirely ska influenced and we all know that their sound is derived from a wide range of genres, but nonetheless they still played ska (Lyin' Ass Bitch and Party at Ground Zero from the s/t are prime examples).
Does their diverse sound prevent them from being one of the founding fathers of American ska? Why are they never mentioned as American ska pioneers? What does hep mean? |
I'd say it's because they are so diverse. I'm also not sure that they played with many up and coming ska bands, though I could be wrong. The reason the Toasters and OpIvy are considered the founding father's of 3rd wave ska is because the Toasters took so many bands under their wings and because OpIvy directly influenced so many bands.

You bastard. Don't stay too close towards the stage during Fishbone's set, or you might get hit by the singer's rutabaga
|
you forgot the aquabats......if they're even considered ska.
|
I don't listen to/like the aquabats. Thus their absence
|
oh ok
|
Woooooooooooooooooooooooo Streetlight Manifesto are coming here on September 17th. I am so glad because they haven't been here since last August

they change their line up so much. i think they still have a saxophone though and mayb a keyboard. but yeah they play ska. |
You! Download my random riffage through a rarely used guitar with an omnidirectional mic and way too much ambient sound!!!!

What would you call them if not a ska band? Every CD they've put out that I've bought(3 CDs) was very much ska. |

Different. They certaintly aren't a normal ska band. A cult band would probably be more accurate. More like Treephort or Gwar than the Planet Smashers. |
