Kith, I know.
sketchyjoe, yeah man I was SOAKED, I got out of the crowd and straightaway was freezing it was gross. I was right at the front in the middle, I don't know if you were anywhere round there. I ache so bad today.
I was around there. It was like dancing in a sauna. My jeans chafed so badly on the walk home. |
Thats why I never go to shows in jeans;)
|
Whenever I wear shorts to a show, it always feels like the stuff in my pocket is going to fall out
|
I went to the show in jeans, but it was only really my top half that got sweaty for some reason! I had to have all my money + my phone in my pocket the whole time  cus the cloakroom wasn't open so I left my bag in the corner of the bar hoping it wouldn't be stolen....& it wasn't!
Speaking of all-ska bills (or ska bands touring with semi-ska bands....Or bands that are mildly related to ska or play ska songs playing together), I've gone to some awesome ones :p Rx Bandits/Howards Alias/Desa/Blame It On Edd // Rx Bandits/Chris Murray // Chris Murray/Sadies Doll/Zen Baseballbat/Smoke Like A Fish/Catch-It Kebabs // Reel Big Fish/Fandangle (ew) // Howards Alias/NoComply/Mighty Snortin' Powder Rangers/Harpoon Larsen // Mighty Snortin' Powder Rangers/Wiservice/The Racketeers // Adequate Seven/The Filaments/Sonic Boom Six // Capdown/Adequate Seven // Capdown/3DayBenda // Lightyear/Gameshow Host/Captain Everything! I need some help with playing ska basslines
i have no gatdang idea where to start ive been playin bass for 2 years now i can slap primus doesnt give me a challenge, play some jaco but ska evades me : / i listen to suicide machines and aquabats and a couple other ska bands any suggestions on songs to listen to thatll help me think more ska thanks |
Theory.
They're walking basslines. Just know your scales and keys and play a bunch of 3rd and 5ths and few 7ths... Catch 22's Walking Away, aside from the intro, is an improved bassline in the key of A# major using roots at A#, C , D# and F. |
thanks man... any other suggestions for songs?
|
awesomeness...streetlight is playing @ my school w/ the tossers on dec 1st its gonna be awesome cus its so cheap and i get to help out:)

Damn your lucky. They play at your school. What the hell, Streetlight never comes to my damn school. |
Did Streetlight go there when they were in high school?
|
Did Streetlight go there when they were in high school?
i don't understand ur question but the old members of catch 22 grew up near new brunswick and the first streetlight show @ rutgers |
thanks man... any other suggestions for songs?
Pretty much anything by Operation Ivy is pretty simple. Unity's bassline is pretty good, so is Sound System. Other stuff by catch 22 is pretty good. It's mostly major songs. The outro to 1234 1234 is another good bassline. Reel Big Fish - Beer or She has a Girlfriend Now If you want really basic ska baselines, then go with the Planet Smashers - Coolest Guy in the Whole World or Explosive or anything else. Their stuff is stupidly simple. |
Hey guys I'm trying to find some pretty rare ska albums which neither play.com, bittorrent, ares, my local independant cd shop or anywhere else seem to have. So is there any chance someone could MSN messenger them to me or something? Sorry if I shouldn't be asking in this thread, please don't get mad! :(
Anyway, they're: Forces of Evil- Friend or Foe (I already bought this once but my sister broke it :upset: ) The Hippos- Forget the World (Been searching for it for like 3 years) Lightyear- Call of the Weasel Clan (Impossible to track down) |
Soulseek! http://www.slsknet.org/download.html
I have Friend or Foe and a Lightyear album, but not that one. So if you get Soulseek you can get anything from me, my name is International War Criminal (name has to be exact) |
awesomeness...streetlight is playing @ my school w/ the tossers on dec 1st its gonna be awesome cus its so cheap and i get to help out:)
I love both bands. They both kick a'ss. Should be a good show. |
Lightyear I can sort of understand... but if you haven't been able to find the Hippos or Forces of Evil then you haven't been looking very hard.
|

I already bought Forces of Evil once though. Don't wanna buy it again. And I can find the second Hippos album (Heads are gonna roll) fairly easily, but I've already got it. I could try Soulseek, but I'm not sure how it works- I gave it a try yesterday and didn't find anything. |

They also have another Hippos album but not the one you want. EURGH I have the detoxes so bad I can hardly type, wish I hadn't been drinking whiskey last night :upset: Saw Streetlight with Skylar on Thursday :D Was AWESOME. Truly. WOW. Loved it. Seeing Pickled Dick tonight up the road. SHIP AHOY.....hahaha no really I'm sure they have more than one song..... |
Ok thanks everybody! I've actually found them on Soulseek. I should use it more often...

What reason I'm where? |
where are The Specials??!!
|
Wow, I just looked at the first page of this thread for the first time in a long time. Why aren't the specials mentioned? That's a little silly.
It's also crazy that you put up me talking about the local band "the cheapskates" when they don't exist anymore, and have a better band. Also my sound files for them don't even work anymore. |
I haven't updated the first page in a long while.
And the front page is pretty much all third wave bands. That's why there are no specials. |
I haven't updated the first page in a long while.

Also, [Spunge] is misspelled in the first post.
|
Are there any Toasters fans out there? If so, what's your favorite album? I bought there Best Of cd a ways back, and I'm looking to buy another one but I'm not sure which one. Opinions anyone?
On a different note, is anyone here going to Midwest Ska Fest 2005? I most certainly plan on attending :] |
Ska night for those in wales

I smell spam.
|
Nah c'mon it's advertising a ska gig/night thing, if I lived in Swansea I'd well be chuffed. Bit o'the old Pama. I think we can rise above calling on spam in this thread ;) It's not like all kinds of ragamuffins are gonna come in here whoring their trade.
Listening to Skylar. Everyone else should. They were blatantly amazing the other night. Everyone come and see them at Christmas either in Southampton or Clapham. Please. :p |
Catch 22 is having a Christmas show here on the 27th so I'll get to see them, and Big D is opening for them so after missing them twice this year, I'll finally get a chance to see them as well. Hopefully my radio station can score free tickets to the show for me.
|
Free tickets are always nice. My job as editor for a local paper could have scored me Hatebreed tickets (one of the opening bands, Most Precious Blood, wanted coverage.) Of course... that implies I had any interest seeing Metalcore bands...
My friend took a video at karaoke Monday night where 8 people jumped on stage during "The Impression that I Get" that I'll post when she sends it to me. |
Anyone got some Go Jimmy Go I could nab from them on AIM? They just announced a show with them and the Toasters coming by in Hartford in Jan. and I'd like to hear something by them.
|
Yeah man gotta love free tickets! I am on the Victory Records street team now & I go down to the offices every couple weeks or so, the guy who runs the deal seems really nice & said he'd start guestlisting me for things - so I should hopefully get the next Streetlight tour free!
I took some pictures tonight of Streetlight but all of them came out so bad cus the stage was really dark! However here's my Skylar pics from the other day: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/skaskaskaska/DSC00323.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/skaskaskaska/DSC00324.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/skaskaskaska/DSC00325.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/skaskaskaska/DSC00327.jpg I talked to Chris after the show today, & he said "Hey haven't I seen you at like 5 or 6 other shows?" So I said yeah and he apologised for me having to watch the same set 6 times, I said "No please come back and play it 6 more times!" & him & Tomas both laughed & Tomas was like "No way!" :upset: I would love them to play that again, haha. But I got Chris to sign his drumstick, & Tomas to sign my BOTAR. Which is awesome! My friend manages this band who supported Streetlight twice in the North this time around, I wish I could've gone to those dates as well! But I couldn't afford the time/money to travel. I was hanging out at the show tonight, & on the train home, with a guy who's seen Streetlight 15 times! Including their first ever show. He's from NY Uni but he's over here for a semester. Well actually I kind of met him/his friend at the Underworld show, but I met him again tonight. I have been listening to loads of Satori since this dude sent me their stuff yesterday, they're awesome!!!!! Like an American Skylar, it's AWESOME! Haha, no coincidence I expect though, that Howards Alias started a similar side project as Rx Bandits, at a similar time. |
Ahh... Its been a while... Patent Pending is comming out w/ a new cd and im excitied like WOAH...
|
Distorted Penguins are comming to MD and im gonna see them twice!!! WOOHOO!!!
