I saw a band where the bassist did that once. It was weird.

Kithkin 07-11-2005 11:18 PM

Oh woe of woes. I have to choose between Strike Anywhere and the Loved Ones or SGR, Badfish and Distorted Penguins on my birthday. Oh noes!

Flip a coin! Heads, Strike Anywhere, because they have heads, and tails, Distorted Penguins, because penguins have tails.

pedro durruti 07-12-2005 01:51 PM

I just realized I subconsciously stole a Friends joke. But then again, the joke isn't that clever, and I could have just forgotten about it and made it up by myself. Either way, just flip a coin

Kithkin 07-13-2005 05:19 AM

It looks like Badfish is headlining. The cover band is headlining. Screw that.

the-UK-ska-scene 07-13-2005 06:17 AM

Howards Alias are playing here tonight. And tomorrow night. And I don't think I'm going to either. It's like the two homecoming parties for their new album.

They're playing with a bunch of bands, I think it's Freaks Union, Sonic Boom Six, and Grown At Home tonight, and Twofold and Fireapple Red tomorrow. Eurgh, I suck, I should be out there having good times but I can't be bothered

Apparently the new album isn't very ska anyway.

Wanted to come and thank you guys who, without even knowing it (due to my awesome lurking skills) have helped me learn a bit about ska :) Thanks guys.

I thought ska went in the punk forum.....oh well....hey guys check out The Skunk 11 It's an 11-person ska band from Pittsburgh. That means 3 types of sax, 1 valve trombone, 2 trumpets, drummer, 2 guitars, bass, keys

Says the liar with 2000+ posts;)

Checking out the Skunk...

or would if that website worked.

I have a cd from a band called Skunks. The title is Mixed Nuts. Is that the same band? Were they on Moon Records in 95?

Leftover Jello 07-14-2005 12:35 AM
Haha I don't know if Big D's bassist always does this, but throughout their whole set yesterday he was making weird faces along with the music. I've seen them three times and I've never noticed that before. Maybe he was just really high this time.
Is he bald? Because I remember seeing a bald crazy *** bassist and I think it might have been with Big D.

pedro durruti 07-14-2005 12:43 AM

Actually, I think he is bald(ing)..

2000 posts perhaps, but this is only my second post (the one you quoted being my first :thumb: ) in a ska thread. I've been posting in other areas of the forums whilst spying on you lot and your secret ska-ways...

hahah the link didnt work because the stupid forum tried to attach it to the end of the forum link thing...I didn't actually mean for it to be a link, just plain text meaning copy and paste...but uh...

Kithkin 07-14-2005 05:37 PM

Go with SGR, thoes guys are just so cool. Theyre a bit older looking bunch of guys. Good times.

Forest_Fire 07-15-2005 01:23 PM

I've never heard SGR. I would go to Strike anywhere. I'm seeing them tuesday, and I can't wait.

Mr Observations 07-15-2005 02:15 PM

Any of you guys like Satori? A friend gave me an album thingy and its awesome, i'm tellin you.

I need more ska in my life. Some bands to start with?

pedro durruti 07-15-2005 06:18 PM

Yeah Satori are awesome, it's Steve Borth's side project

the-UK-ska-scene 07-16-2005 01:56 PM

I was gonna buy the Satori CD last weekend, as they had it on the Do The Dog stall for only £7, unfortunately I completely ran out of money :upset:

I finally got the Bedouin Soundclash CD through in the post today!!!! :D I happened to be visiting my mum in hospital this afternoon after work, it's about an hour's journey from where I live to the hospital so I listened to it all the way there and back, and oh man it's so awesome. Seriously, that CD is summer, and it's one of the best I've bought in a long while. Everyone buy it! :thumb:

pedro durruti 07-16-2005 02:06 PM

I got it at Warped Tour (after I saw them :)) and the only disappointment is that they don't have the song New Year's Day on it. That song was definitely the best one they played, and it was like a cover of five songs in one, the ones I can remember where they took a verse or chorus or two from is Police and Thieves, Guns of Brixton, A Message to You Rudy and Johnny Appleseed

the-UK-ska-scene 07-16-2005 02:37 PM

Yeah my friend Alex saw them at Warped, and said they did that medley and what songs were in it, and that they were awesome. They're playing Reading/Leeds festivals over here, first band of the first day at Reading, brilliant start to the festival for me :D And the aforementioned friend, Alex, should be putting them on at London on their mini-tour afterwards. Which will be wicked :)

When i saw Streetlight they were with Gym class Heroes and there singer always did that.

haha yeah same here. it may have been Big D since they played at that show with the face-making bassist, but I don't think it was.

Maybe it's just ska bassists in general.

mshort813 07-18-2005 09:17 PM

Has anyone ever heard of the band, Face First? I don't know how popular they were because they were a local band for me. But they were ****ing awesome. They ditched the horns and formed the pop-punk act, Houston Calls.

I'll YSI some stuff if anyone's interested.

Forest_Fire 07-19-2005 02:44 PM

Is it just me, or did the latest rant disappear on streetlight's site?

The "sink or swim, it all begins today" one.

masterofdisaster 07-19-2005 10:58 PM

jesus christ dude. i was about to start a thread asking about cool ska bands, but you beat me. way to go.

with mad caddies you forgot the sweetest song....... weird beard  i love that song

Yeah, that guy was a bit odd. Picking his nose and such.

Bye bye LA

maco 07-20-2005 08:19 PM

One of the guys in Anti-Flag (I think it's the drummer) makes faces while playing. He opens his mouth and his tongue like flops around and stuff....I've noticed I do that while taking tests though. I think it's a concentration thing.
