So, Ska Is Dead is comming up. Sounds reallly fun, but its on a school night, so I dont know if i'll be able to make it.
And this weekend, I was at the best ska show, I mean normally you have a group of kids that skank the whole night, then the rest just watch the band right? Welll at this show, Everyone skanked to every song. We had the band members out there with us and everything. It had a really cool vibe, Its something that you dont feel at punk shows. |
I saw them in concert in April I think it was. I think they're still touring.
Pie Tasters are coming by Hartford again and Big D and the Kids Table is opening for them so since I missed Big D when I missed Warped I'm definitly checking out that show. That and my girlfriend loves the Pie Tasters.
Big D are opening for the Pietasters in CT... That seems odd. Unless they insisted that the older band get the top billing. |

The faster the band the less people that skank. |

I saw Bedouin Soundclash last Friday. I happened to get at the front, on the bar, just cus my friend got there early and had a big space. I was disappointed with their set to be honest, it was only half an hour long cus they were the first band onstage at a festival. All they played off Sounding A Mosaic was When The Night Feels My Song, Jeb Rand, Criminal, Shelter, and Gyasi Went Home I think. They played a Clash cover as well which was cool, and another couple of songs I didn't know (one was off their 'new CD' - they haven't officially released Sounding A Mosaic here yet but it was a song I haven't heard so maybe a UK extra?). They were a good live band, though, even though the sound was terrible for the first couple of songs, the vocals were hardly audible. I wanna see them play a longer set, though.
I'm worried about how big they are getting here though, they are getting massive airplay on Radio 1 (the biggest national station), Radio 1 DJs really love them. Also they're supporting The Ordinary Boys on their next tour, so they will probably get huge. All a bit weird! Anyhow, here's my pictures from when I saw them (not great quality, all taken on my phone) 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 |
they change their line up so much. i think they still have a saxophone though and mayb a keyboard. but yeah they play ska.
Ahh...no they don't. They play Devo-rock. Good (local) ska bands... http://myspace.com/superhero http://myspace.com/hbtmusic http://myspace.com/swill - They broke up, but they still rock http://myspace.com/dubbed - More Reggae/Dub/Punk, but they friggin' rock. |
I gotta say thanks Kithkin since I've taken countless albums from you on AIM these last two days since I'll be going to school next week and I wont be able to connect with as high speeds as I've been getting.

Walking Away!!!! Soo i need some help. I want to make the perfect ska mix for when im in the ska mood, so i can just pop that cd in and enjoy it the whole way through. I need about 12-15 more songs so any suggestions? So far "walking away" is going to be on there, "little bitch" by the ordinary boys, and a few others. :) |
Do you live in the toronto area?

Ahh Kithkin, you=the best ever.
And hmm, mine is labled as The Ordinary Boys. I don't know who it's originally by, but i know that Big D and the Kids Table did a cover of it. |
It was on the Specials' self-titled album in 1979. Are the Ordinary Boys pre- or post-Specials?
|
The Ordinary Boys are a current band. They covered it. The Specials version is far superior.
|
Big D and the Kids Table has also covered. It's decent, but it can't touch the original.
|
Little bitch is my favourite Specials song. And I also enjoy Big D's version

So does a band called Bus Stop. Some technoish band. Its on one of the DDR mixes. 4th I think. |
Mustard Plug does too
|
You're My Idol <3
Yeah, I get that a lot:) |
Big D and the Kids Table has also covered. It's decent, but it can't touch the original.
I saw them play it last night. I didn't even know they were gonna play cuz they weren't listed on my ticket, so that was a nice surprise (I wasn't expecting anything skankable). As soon as he said "This one's called Little Bitch" I screamed "Specials!" Oh, yeah, and there was a skin with 2tone braces and pair of Docs.....I was like O.O |
Big D is pretty orgasmic, the only thing is, they're usually on the same bill as hard, crazy punk bands. Like the last time they came to Buffalo, they opened for the casualties and anti flag, so i had to put up with these insane and violent skinhead kids, but big d is totally worth it. And they're lyrics are funny and cool, not really immature but i do have to say, the like 600 F bombs in LAX is a little excessive.
If you wanna check out a cool local ska band: Mechatama |
That's who I saw them with. I didn't know they were on the bill. I just went for Anti-Flag and was like "Huh? Big D's playing? Cool"
|
I'm seeing the Karmakanix next week. Anyone listen to them?
|
Bump.
To keep it spam free.... Im going to a ska show next weekend, and Im happy cause I can finally get the New Heatskores cd. Iv been waiting forever for this cd release party. But I hear the cd is more punk now. So I dont know, I'll have to listen. |
The only thing coming near me anytime soon is Badfish: Tribute to Sublime.
In philly they brought SGR and the Distorted Penguins. Here they are bringing a Rage Against the Machine tribute band. |
Guys I just thought some of you might be interested in this:
Howards Alias are splitting up. "We have all decided that playing music as Howards Alias has, because of circumstances stopped being fun a lot of the time, and is jeopardising friendships in or outside the band. Therefore we have decided that Howards Alias will soon cease to exist as a band. Both myself and Nick decided we would like to tour one last time, not only to savour the taste of what has been our lives for the past 5 years, but also to give something back to you, the people that buy our music and come to watch us play live. The tour will be in October. There are dates soon to be confirmed across October finishing with a final Southampton show sometime in the first week of November." < Matt, from HA. Big shame, they are a local band that made it big and I appreciate them a lot. However I don't think I'll be able to make it home for the last gig which is a shame. But I think I might be seeing them in about 2 weeks in London, with Adequate Seven and Captain Everything!, which will be an amazing show. |
Haven't been to a show for awhile, but I may go to Hempstalk today and I'm definitely going to see Streetlight next week.
