I'm going to Howards Alias on the 18th of May
Mint, might be seeing them in July but we'll see (if I can be bothered). The all-dayer I might be going to on my birthday has Skylar (they have Howards Alias members, fucking brill band), Blame It On Edd, Pickled Dick, Complex GSL, Encyclopedia, Duff Muffin, Plug, Suburbia Fears, and should be more tbc. I reeeaally want to go to the Saturday of Wasted this year, but that looks like it might not happen. There's still a chance, though - I really want to see Mumrah, APB, Splitters, Catch-It Kebabs, Zen Baseball Bat, The Supatones, King Django, Random Hand, Freaks Union, Sonic Boom Six, Adequate Seven, MU330, The Filaments, Howards Alias, NoComply, Captain Hotknives, Stza Crack, The Undertones, and The Stranglers who are playing that day. Best day of the fest with my musical taste. Mint! However, gigs I am going to..... That'd be Streetlight Manifesto, in about 8 hours, and then Streetlight again tomorrow. Then maybe Wednesday. And then maybe again next Sunday (but then I wouldn't be able to see The Toasters). Hmm, decisions!! |
SL played Under the Sea from the Little Murmaid as an encore and a bunch of songs I didn't know during their set.
|
You should add Secret Agent 8 to the list.

axis of evil are a really good local band from worcester, MA...they opened for reel big fish and the pietasters and way more people were dancing to their set than to the pietasters
jeffries fan club are good...kinda like less than jake before they went pop punk but with a less annoying singer |
My first ska show is friday... I can't wait.
Mustard Plug, plus a bunch of kick a'ss local ska bands. |
Everyone get Satori's debut album tomorrow!
A fresh mix of reggae, bluebeat, rocksteady, and ska. The debut album by SATORI sounds like it came straight from the streets of Kingston, Jamaica. Instead it comes from Huntington Beach, CA. This new project is the brainchild of Steve Borth of the RX BANDITS and features all the members of the band including guest spots from Chris Murray, Ben Brewer (THE EXIT) and Gunnar Olsen (THE EXIT). Inspired by STEVIE WONDER (brown cover albums), DUKE ELLINGTON , JOHN COLTRANE, KING TUBBY, LEE "SCRATCH" PERRY, and THE SKA-TALITES. DIGIPAK with booklet.
|
You know when it's out in England? The Reel Big Fish album isn't out til next month :( I asked the shop to order it in early but no luck.
Here's my Streetlight pictures from Sunday night, please excuse the one of me looking mullered at the end. I was actually dead. It was so hot at the show that Chris the Streetlight drummer nearly fainted and had to go outside for air in the middle of the set. So they only played a few songs. They also had to turn all the lights down, meaning I used the flash, and didn't want to take so many pictures and so there's only a few. http://photobucket.com/albums/v306/jazm2/Streetlight%20Manifesto%20Southampton%20Joiners/ I asked Tomas if they could play We Are The Few the next night, and sure enough he got them to, in the encore. It was awesome, and I shook his hand after and he remembered me and everything. So I've seen them play pretty much everything I want them to, except I asked for They Provide The Paint... and Tom said the new members didn't know it yet :upset: But I have seen them play A Moment Of Silence, A Moment Of Violence, Everything Went Numb, Point/Counterpoint, Keasbey Nights, Hell, If And When We Rise Again, A Better Place A Better Time, We Are The Few, The Big Sleep, Here's To Life, Dear Sergio, and they played the start of One Mississippi, and also the start of Smells Like Teen Spirit, which was so awesome. Their trumpet isn't with them on this tour, he got stopped by US security on the way out of the country. Guys, your system is ****ed up  Brilliant, though! So brilliant! Everything just rules. |
Asian Man will ship to england I think...
That sucks about the trumpeter. The only thing they haven't played for you that they played for use is Hey by the suicide machines. |
Rx Bandits was sold out :(
|
Ok finally got around to improving Duff Muffin, as I saw them last night. Amazing.
Duff Muffin - Local to me skacore boys, they're also on Do The Dog and they rock hard. They mix skacore and jazz stuff, and blend it in with tight-but-simple beats to make excellent live music, which scrubs up well on CD. Still a young band, expect the debut full-length soon (summer '05). Unfortunately I didn't get to see Midnight Crazies last Wednesday so I can't really improve the thing I wrote about them. Check it out I spent my May Day bank holiday Monday evening making a BOTAR shirt... That's awesome. Make me one!!
|
Hah, okay, it'll take me about 5 hours though!! You know, sometimes I think I should've taken art at school ;) Well, like stencil-t-shirt-art anyway..... I made some BOTAR/Streetlight patches before, too
... By the way, my bag is covered in crap, but before this turns into a "Jas picture thread" if you want to see the famous sack itself, just look here (the Motion City Soundtrack things are just stickers) http://photobucket.com/albums/v510/skaskaskaska/bag/  |
The BOTAR Here's to Life shirt with the guy toasting is probably my favorite shirt of all time.
My backpack has everything columbia covered and patches wherever they fit. I see at least two asian man patches on there:) I have the Mu330 one too;) I'll edit the original posts later. They are starting to run over in the 10,000 character count... |
I wish I could stencil like that. I'll probably try over the summer |
Im going to Streetlight june 5th, which is amazing because no one ever f'ucking plays in maine.
|
Well, they're playing in A Portland
|
Ya, thats why its cool because someone is actually playing in Maine for once.

I've only got 3 albums:( [/steals Weapons of Brass Destruction] |
I haven't read any of this thread, you might talk about these guys all the time, but anyways, can someone tell me about Long Beach Shortbus? Eric Wilson of Sublime and Ras1 of Dub Allstars are in the band so I'm guessing they're really good. Can someone confirm that for me, I wanna know if I should see them this summer.
|
I saw Big D last night. Un****ingbelievable.
|
Rub it in Jas's face that she couldn't see Big D. Go on, I dares ya. Everyone's going to see ska bands at the moment, it's ace.
Jam2Me, I've never seen Long Beach Shortbus but a friend who's a BIG Sublime fan and also a bassist went to see them on the UK tour a year or so back, and he didn't think they were too great live. Although, to be in the same room as a Sublime member, I think made up for that. How was Ska Weekend for whoever went? Did anyone go see Howards Alias? If not, shame on you!! Mustard Plug and MU330 are two bands I've often fancied seeing but not yet have. I mean, Mustard Plug said they were playing a venue near me, then cancelled ( ), and MU330 are playing a local venue next Wednesday and I can't go ( :upset: ). Reel Big Fish seem to be playing a small club venue tour here in June (very under-publicised), and there's a date near me in a gap between my exams.... So I need to convince some people to go, if that's possible. These are big exams, so we'll see..... And Kith, what's up with the sudden obsession with World/Inferno? You strange kid :p /Jas creams |
Big D are my favorite live band

Yeah, it isn't the same without Brad. They are an ok Reggae band now. If you like the Dub Allstars go for it. The World Inferno Friendship Society's myspace blew me away, but I haven't really listened to anything else except the song on the first Rock Against Bush. www.21deadmonkeys.com linked them on friday. |
Get on Soulseek Kith. I have all their stuff on there.
|
So I'm going to see Reel Big Fish at the Wedge on 1st June  The Wedge is my local, by the way, capacity of 400.
The last 2 times RBF toured, they've played Southampton Guildhall, which is 2000 capacity, and the time before that (around 3 or 4 years ago) they played Pyramids which is 1200 capacity. The time before that (?) was when they played with Sum 41, at Portsmouth Guildhall which is over 2000 capacity. So this is wayyyy smaller than I've ever seen them at. Oh, and I saw them at Reading festival with about 60,000 other people last year. They did a small club tour about 2.5 years ago, but it didn't come here. They are just playing a few venues on this new tour. Jeez I can't wait :D |
Its going to be really crowded and you won't be able to move;)
Our local club holds 300-400 and that happens everytime the come. |
Yep, I remember one of the last sold-out shows I went to at Wedge, it was around 1.5 years ago, and it was horrible. I couldn't see a damn thing, plus the music wasn't great (but it was ok cus I had got in for free and went backstage... But that's a different story). But I don't care! Because this time there'll be dancing and stuff, bloody righteous! I assume I'll collapse and die after, but isn't that what it's all about?
I'm so glad ska's not too popular here. Means I go to a lot of shows which aren't too packed. This place I'm going to with a capacity of 400, the tickets have been on sale 2 days and this afternoon when I went in there were only 40 left ... That's one of the fastest selling shows ever there. Plus it's hardly advertised at all. Mental. |
Everyone should listen to Ska Cubano.
I'm so glad ska's not too popular here. Means I go to a lot of shows which aren't too packed.al.
Yeah, that's the only advantage to a small scene. I think the most amount of people I've seen at a show here is 150 at tops |
RBF draw far more than just ska kids though. We get a lot of pretty boys in nice clothes with their girlfriends in the pit who don't want to get pushed. They never look happy.
