You Guys are off

I don't know who is listening to you guys when you talk about ska and punk cause your ignorance on the subject seems to be abundant. My first gripe is

"**** Rancid?" - I dont care if you dislike there music (especialy there new stuff considering the lows they have sunk too) but with albums like "Let's go" which pretty much sums up good street punk.

The second problem you guys have is that you have not listed on of the greatest ska bands of all time as far as i can tell:

<B>Slapstick</B> - chicago ska core band. A few of their memebers went on to be in Alkaline Trio and The Lawrence Arms, but we can forgive them for that. They had a handfull of ep and lp's that were all placed on one CD that is green and says *Slapstick* on it.

- Chad the Banned

Hint, dont come in, insult the members, talk about a band that people reading the original posts should know about, forget to mention that they went on to form less than jake, and then peddle your Amazonian wares.

almostpunkenough 02-17-2005 02:58 AM

Sorry

And evidently these forums are not HTML enabled so here are the two links again

Sorry about that guys

It's really good yeah, and it's already growing on me as well. They're very reminiscent of King Prawn in places, and that can only be a good thing! It's definitely worth getting, especially as it's only a fiver brand spanking new.

Kithkin 02-17-2005 09:19 PM

So are they the band that spawned from king prawn?

Also, which album were the two of you refering to?
So are they the band that spawned from king prawn?
Nope, they're just a band who appreciate the 'Prawn. Babar Luck is the ex-King Prawn lyricist dude, still going I think, awesome guy. Don't know if he has a webbysite or anything, though.

Yeah it's Sounds To Consume, I wanted Turbo when it was out but I never pulled my finger out and bought it. Then we tried to get Alex (PunkerMentality) to get some copies in, but it had gone out of print and he couldn't get it :( So I just had to wait for the album, and at £5 it's a bargain anyways :D

Could someone tell me what they think of this song? http://www.angelfire.com/art2/asdf23/SLK.mp3

I'm not advertising my own band because... well, I don't have my own band. This is a band that was somewhat local around west Michigan in 1982. My parents used to see them at bars all the time. They have their album, which only has 8 songs on it, but I still like it.
Also, I want to listen to more ska bands that sound similar to this. Could someone give me some recomendations?

crasychriz 02-19-2005 10:52 AM

my dont they make a ska section on the forums. :'(

That singer sounds a lot like Terry Hall, but uhh bands that sound like it. Two tone bands, heh, that's all I got

That was a really good song, think they'd have any albums on soulseek?

I really doubt it. However, if I ever figure out how to get vinyl cleanly onto the computer (I got this song from a mix tape we had, with just that song for this band) I'll put it up on soulseek.

Wow so you can post pictures in here? Sweet picture dude.

Last night I saw Sonic Boom Six, and safe to say I proper creamed my jeans. Monkey See Monkey Do, it's amazing live, oh man. I also saw Adequate Seven, top-hole as always (even though we had to leave straight after The State We're In :upset: but I didn't miss it and it's my favourite so it's ok). And I saw The Filaments who play ska like they were born to do it... I thought they'd stopped playing ska, but they played a new song last night called "Insult To Injury" (I think) which was very ska. Brilliant, it was.

You have to copy and paste the links.

I haven't checked out the other bands but I thought Running Potatoes were pretty good. Some of their songs seem a bit jumpy and sound like a couple songs put together. Is that what happens in Empty Pockets at around 1:00 and 1:20 and a couple other times. They are good anyway though.

mshort813 02-24-2005 10:08 AM

I might be seeing Catch in April. :). I've seen them before with Glassjaw and a couple others but I didnt really know them at the time.

This might help, but it all seemed like he was trying to be impressive with his knowledge of skanking and it would leave unfamiliar people in the dust.

This is a local band out of New Jersey. Mostly schoolkids, I think. Check out Waste Of Time in their audio section. They're pretty good.
