Holy crap! It's Matis Yahu! I love that man!
He's the best Orthodox Jewish Rapper ever! :thumb:

blacklungfever 03-19-2005 10:54 PM

I play bass in a ska/punk band, Vanilla FeedCake. We have a PV, http://www.purevolume.com/vanillafeedcake the recordings are pretty bad but whatever. We'll get some better ones eventually, with our trumpet player too.

I love ska.

EDIT: That Jewish reggae/rap is fantastic!

Kithkin 03-20-2005 09:28 AM

Yeah, he came here on wednesday. Its like... orthodox jewish... ok... reggae... ok... hip hop... wait.... getting airplay... hey... what .... that doesn't make any sense.

Its awsome, but it hurts my brain.

mikecarr 03-20-2005 12:31 PM

dan ross left streetlight!

the-UK-ska-scene 03-20-2005 02:48 PM

Woah, seems stuff is a bit hectic for them at the moment!

skadrummer411 03-20-2005 05:05 PM

great job on all that info. its about time someone recognized ska for what it is. we have a ska band at our high school called Liable To Change. they're pretty good in the fact that they just won battle of the bands but most of their songs are just other artists sings with a ska twist to it, its kinda gay.If i wanted to hear songs like that i could turn on the radio. Reel Big Fish did some songs like that too but only like 2 so its really not that bad.

mshort813 03-20-2005 06:31 PM
dan ross left streetlight!
:amaze: That sucks, he's a good player. They did pretty good when Egan left though. The show I saw was a couple days after he left and the replacement was awesome and knew all the songs really well. Now they have to have seven guys though. The replacement only knew trumpet whereas Egan knew trumpet and trombone. So now they have Mike Soprano as trombone and something Bonner as trumpet. They'll find someone soon to replace Ross...when someone leaves a band like SM, there's got to be a lot of people that want to fill the spot. Yeah things are pretty crazy for them, and they still have the Europe tour soon.

The Aquabats kick.

Man, I'm still pissed Ska is Dead didn't come to the Northwest

Kithkin 03-21-2005 05:09 PM

Were they planning to?

The bands in Ska is Dead had terrible luck this time around.

skakid524 03-23-2005 06:57 PM

I didn't read any pages of this but the first and kind of the last one but I'm pretty sure no one mentioned a really good ska band "Last Picked". They broke up but their music is some of the best and well concentrated I've ever heard.

http://www.purevolume.com/lastpicked

and there you have it.

I haven't heard them before but I do like them. And they're from NJ which makes them ten times better.

I uploaded a lot of songs to a website that eventually got shutdown. So anything that says ACE doesn't work anymore. All of the rest are links to offical sites and should work. If they don't it means the url was changed or something.

And since you asked Jas, I'll let Jas answer:)

Jas, the cheap answer is I liked everything you sent me:) You sent me fine time by scrub. They are damn good. You also sent me the Stickybacks - You Stacked It who totally stole the riff from the voodooglowskulls. But that's ok because they do it better;). You had amnesia and sent me sonic boom six who I already loved:p and I think the Junglists and Captain Everything saying one was a good pop punk band and you weren't wrong. I don't remember what you said about the other one... but it was probably right too.

pedro durruti 03-28-2005 06:28 PM
Jas, because you love me so much, could you tell me the best bands offa Kithkins first posts :D
Well some of my favourites would have to be (offa his original posts)...

Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution/Streetlight Manifesto
Big D and the Kids Table
Chris Murray
Distorted Penguins
King Apparatus
King Prawn
Link 80
Mad Caddies
Mu330
Mustard Plug
Operation Ivy
The Planet Smashers
Sublime
The Supertones
The Forces of Evil
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

... And if you try to get a little something from some of them, you should get a nice broad variety of ska and stuff.
And since you asked Jas, I'll let Jas answer:)
 kthx. And I'm glad you liked everything, sorry I sent you SB6 though you'd already heard them! Ahh, going to see them again in a couple of weeks, really can't wait. Should pick up some CDs by a couple other hard-to-get-hold-of local ska acts that day as well, including one of my friend Alex's favourite bands at the moment, The Lock Up... Who are apparently 2-toney and good. Cannae wait :D
Not to mention the hawt nudes!
There was a reason he wasn't mentioning them, it was confidential!!

I have been listening to BOTAR, and a little bit o'Streetlight today, and I am so loved-up with music and life and those bands right now. It's unbelievable. The BOTAR EP just takes my breath away every time I listen to it.

Untitled 03-30-2005 04:16 AM

Hyposomnaic 03-30-2005 10:43 PM

Anyone know some good Spanish Ska Bands. I like Unidad, Cerveza y Ska by Inspector and Tres Veces Tres by Panteon Rococo, which got me into spanish ska. So anything that you think I would be interested throw them my way. Also I don't wanna hear the Clash sing in spanish, so don't even post that.

pedro durruti 03-31-2005 01:33 AM

Skamoondongos, Ska Cubano (Cuban, obviously, but they sing in Spanish- not all the time though), Jamaica 69

SKA MAN 04-02-2005 02:58 PM

hey do the ska bands get that sound? is it like some weird effect cuz i'm buyin a pedal soon and i need to know

sweboy 04-02-2005 04:15 PM

You're talking about the guitar? It aint no effects, it's all about the technique. I'm sure there's a lot of threads in the guitar forum about it, so check it out.

Jas 04-02-2005 04:33 PM

Upstrokes innit moosh ;)

Hey kids, might have some exciting information that I need your help with, but I'll have to sort out the details first so I'll ask you guys for ideas in a couple of days :D
