Farse were a great live band. I saw them 3 times. They weren't so good on CD though.

the-UK-ska-scene 01-17-2005 12:54 PM

Farse were awesome. I thought they were ace live too. Bit disappointed when I got Got The Thirst, though. But it's really starting to grow on me :D

Got The Thirst is a King Prawn CD.

the-UK-ska-scene 01-25-2005 07:30 AM

Haha, sorry I was listening to Got The Thirst at the time, I meant Boxing Clever. I saw Farse just before they released Boxing Clever, and I think it did come up trumps. :)

On a darker note, Jamie Egan has left Streetlight :(

SickOnTheBusYouCunt 01-25-2005 08:29 AM

i got give em the boot 4 yesterday

the ska bands on it are really, really good, i especially like the aggrolites

Yeah, Boxing Clever has some great tracks but some took a couple of listens to get used to. I saw them too just before its release. I actually got it at one of their shows before it was officially released.

I was thinking about getting that cd a while back, but i ended up buying The Fury Of The Aquabats instead. Which is a great cd, i must say. :thumb:

Anyone else here an Aquabats fan?

sweboy 01-27-2005 02:22 PM

So what's up with Streetlight Manifesto's new album? Is it released or what?

the-UK-ska-scene 01-27-2005 04:32 PM

According to Amazon it was released a couple days ago (ignore that shit)... According to Victory it's out May 31st. I'm looking forward to it.

I got Let's Go Bowling - Music To Bowl By (a 1991 album) for £4 the other day in a music exchange, jeezus it's EXCELLENT! Ahhh, so fucking sweeet :) I've been listening to it a lot.

pedro durruti 01-27-2005 05:04 PM

Hey I just downloaded that. About the Streetlight album, a bunch of people are doubtful on how good it's going to be. Then I punch them in the throat, after I remind them that it's Streetlight Manifesto

the-UK-ska-scene 02-03-2005 05:30 AM

Oh shi... Who let this go to the 3rd page?!!!?!?!

So I got Assorted Jelly Beans s/t yesterday (for £3, bargain), and of the bits I've listened to so far I think it's really good stuff :)

pedro durruti 02-03-2005 05:47 PM

Yeah that's a good album, I think I'll listen to it now

teleplayer101 02-03-2005 05:58 PM

anyone ever heard i voted for kodos? great band they are, check them out at purevolume

the-UK-ska-scene 02-03-2005 06:30 PM

IV4K are ace, yeah.

Incidentally, Suburban Legends played with IV4K the last time they ever played their stuff from The Origin Edition live :nerd:

who_cares_about_anything 02-03-2005 10:02 PM

I need to find some good skacore/ska-remo stuff. Anyone know anything?

pedro durruti 02-03-2005 11:44 PM

I've gotten their live album as a bonus cd from ordering from Asian man twice:). I gave one to a friend on her birthday. They are very good.

pedro durruti 02-04-2005 05:14 PM

Last time I ordered from Asian Man I got some crappy split

Inspector Ska 02-04-2005 07:59 PM

ok i have a question, the specials are one of my favorit bands and i love other two tone bands but what is it that makes it "two tone" i mean i cant figure out what the "two tone " sound is, i mean what makes a band two tone....... help me please

Forest_Fire 02-04-2005 08:21 PM
2nd - The Specials, The (English) Beat, Madness, The Selecter, Bad Manners, Apollinaires, Swinging Cats, Higsons, and The Papers.

What was changed - Two Tone, this is where Two Tone came from. The Label 2 Tone Records was responsible for this revival and second wave. THis is where Punk, Pop and Rock were minced with Ska and Ska Punk bands first came about. Also it is centered in England, not Jamacia.

The Dance - Im even less sure about this than i was in the first wave. My best guess is it is about halfway between 3rd wave and 1st wave ska. Probably more movement and maybe some moshing by now.
two tone is 2nd wave, generally labeled by the time peroid (late 70s and 80s), the location (england) many were on the label "2 tone"

Inspector Ska 02-05-2005 12:37 AM

so thats why there arnt any new two tone bands?
is it posible for someone to start a band now and say that its "two tone"?
just wondering

pedro durruti 02-05-2005 01:07 AM

Yeah, it is possible. Two tone is a sound

crazycaddie 02-05-2005 01:09 PM

Wow.... streetlight just played in my town (cleveland) and I'm still getting over the shock of how awesome it was. there are no words to desribe it. but what was really awesome is they made a mix of point/counterpoint and keasbey nights. i would have never expected that to sound good but it was one of the best ones they played and they played all the songs on the everything goes numb cd. best concert I've ever had the pleasure of attending.

nopicks4me 02-05-2005 03:45 PM

thanks for the list. ive been lookin for something like that

mr.k 02-05-2005 09:13 PM
very nicely done, however imo catch 22 was only good for keasbey nights their breakoff band Streetlight Manifesto however is Excellent :thumb:
Streetlight Manifesto is the best ska band out there :thumb:
Last time I ordered from Asian Man I got some crappy split
They keep sending me the same bonus stuff. I have 3 copys of King Apparatus's self titled.

And yeah, 2-Tone is a sound more than anything. You can call the Toasters 2-Tone even though they weren't in the time period and they weren't on the label and be pretty accurate in describing them.

the-UK-ska-scene 02-06-2005 02:07 PM
They keep sending me the same bonus stuff. I have 3 copys of King Apparatus's self titled.
Lucky for some, I have no copies!!

I think Toasters are like 3rd wave in some places, though, again it's a case of you can't pigeonhole them.

I was listening to Smoke Like A Fish the other day, followed straight after by The Toasters, and I was thinking how alike they are (and not just because of the keyboard, though that is a factor). You guys should really listen to more Smoke Like A Fish, make it a priority! :p

duffroxmysox 02-06-2005 02:18 PM

Hey guys, I wanna find new bands to listen to but have no idea where to start with the ones suggested, theres too big a list! (not a bad thing :p)

I'm into ska stuff like Mad Caddies, Op Ivy, Sublime, Sonic Boom 6, Zen Baseball Bat, Madness...and just other punky stuff as well as rock so erm...you got any suggestions for other stuff to start off with?
